This position is located at the Piedmont Research Station working in the Dairy Research Unit with primary duties consisting of working in the dairy herd health and husbandry, collecting data and providing general animal care. Employee will feed and care for research herd; maintain research records of animal health and husbandry, feed consumption and environmental measurements; operate, maintain and clean equipment and facilities; and assist wherever necessary in the conduct of research trials, support for research herd and collection of data. Work will require employee to function as a member of a team as well as independently with limited supervision. Employee will be required to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis. Based on research needs, employee will also be assigned responsibilities in the poultry and crops research area.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
- General knowledge of dairy production and animal husbandry.
- Ability to observe, collect and record information
- Ability to operate farm equipment
- Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
- Must possess a valid drivers license and obtain a NC driver's license within 60 days of hire
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Environment, Natural Resources and Scientific, (Research branch) has a career-banded compensation plan, which encourages and rewards competency development. Recruitment for this position will target the journey level of the Research class. Salary will commensurate with the applicant’s competencies, as well as the budget, equity, and market conditions. For current state employees during the implementation phase of career-banding, this position is considered to be equivalent to salary grade 60. If no qualified applicants apply who meet the required competencies/training/experience requirements, management may consider candidates at the contributing level. **NOTE: Career-Banded position. To minimally qualify, applicants must meet the training and experience requirements and required competencies. Competencies must be listed on the state application to receive appropriate credit.
