DESCRIPTION

Lutheran Immigration seeks a Research and Communications Specialist to support its Higher* program. The Research and Communications Specialist must be able to lead research projects based on national- and state-level information/data. The position will develop critical materials on promising practices in refugee employment and community engagement which lead to state and national program improvement. As a result of the research, the position will construct messages for Higher target audiences - employment service providers and employers - using multiple media tools, including print publications, web, as well as video and audio presentations. Working closely with the Higher team, the Research and Communications Specialist will ensure that current and relevant news, tools, and resources are disseminated to the refugee employment network so that refugees have the support they need to enter and advance in the U.S. workforce. * Began as RefugeeWorks, Higher is a program of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service and has served as the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement's training and technical assistance arm for employment and self-sufficiency activities for over 15 years. Higher offers technical assistance and training to local employment service providers as they work to support integration for new Americans and the communities that receive them. Higher also develops resources for job seekers from a refugee or migrant background and helps connect companies looking for reliable workers to local refugee employment services.

DUTIES

Lead research, using a variety of tools, techniques and methods to identify and analyze promising practices in the field of refugee employment and overall integration.Create reports and build communication materials, e.g. written reports, website, newsletters, PowerPoint presentations, etc.Coordinate with other team members for content creation for online training modules.Work collaboratively with Higher staff on new and ongoing initiatives.Enhance Higher's capacity to disseminate research findings (sometimes via the Internet) and respond to requests for information about Higher research and data from national, state and local partners.Build and maintain ongoing relationships with allied research and policy organizations on the national and state levels as well as local partners.Represent Higher outside of the organization at meetings and at a wide variety of speaking engagements.Engagement in ongoing professional development.Engagement in agency -wide activities and initiatives including all-staff meetings, working groups or task forces and implementation of strategic initiatives. Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS

Deep commitment to LIRS's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners.Three or more years of experience in research or communications role with a focus on human rights.Bachelor's degree, Master's degree preferred in public policy, economics, social sciences or related field.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to present research findings before audiences.Ability to manage multiple, concurrent projects under tight deadlines.Demonstrated skills in qualitative and quantitative analysis.Familiarity with federal and private data sources and statistical databases, including an ability to synthesize data into summary reports suitable for wide dissemination to both technical and non-technical audiencesUnderstanding of federal and state policies affecting refugee resettlement and immigration.Web communications experience, including social media.Training experience, understanding of adult learning pedagogy.Basic HTML editing skills.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
