Requests, collects, reviews and analyzes sensitive detailed violent death injury data (e.g., coroner records, law enforcement reports, autopsy reports, crime laboratory data) submitted to the Ohio Violent Death Reporting System (OH-VDRS) (e.g., electronic, in hard copy); codes, formats, enters data submitted into computerized database (e.g., OH-VDRS, Access) for violent death cases; edits data according to national guidelines; retrieves data from electronic databases for research purposes. Abstracts sensitive information from coroner and law enforcement reports on all violent deaths (e.g., homicide, suicide, unintentional firearm, undetermined) that occur in Ohio. Performs on-site visits to coroner offices and local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to abstract coroner and law enforcement records and other types of reporting sources and enters this information remotely into provided laptop; consults with reporting sources to facilitate data collection and submission (e.g., electronic submission). |
Assists supervisor in preparation of reports and maintaining records of the OH-VDRS database; communicates benefits of OH-VDRS to non-traditional public health partners (e.g., police agencies, sheriff departments).
Serves in informational &/or advisory capacity with persons in agency, stakeholders and other violence prevention practitioners. Assists data manager in maintaining records in OH-VDRS data. Maintains records and logs of case incident status and completeness. Assists OH-VDRS manager in development of policies, procedures, and computerized data processing programs to facilitate a database containing timely, complete, and accurate population-based data.
This position is unclassified in accordance with ORC 124.11(A) (29).
3 courses or 9 mos. exp. in operational, mathematical, analytical &/or statistical techniques used in problem solving or decision making.
