The successful candidate will serve as a project manager, lab coordinator and researcher with the National Aquatic Monitoring Center (NAMC) at Utah State University (USU). The NAMC is a joint partnership between the Bureau of Land Management and USU and is housed within the Department of Watershed Sciences at USU. The overall goals of the NAMC are to provide macroinvertebrate sample processing services, assist federal and state agencies with the design and implementation of scientifically defensible biomonitoring programs and to conduct coordinated research related to biomonitoring and emerging natural resource issues.
1. Assist with the development, management and implementation of research projects, including study design, field planning, data analysis and report/manuscript writing 2. Effectively communicate with the NAMC director, taxonomy manager and clients to manage day-to-day operations related to sample processing and reporting 3. Data management; including database development and maintenance 4. Supervise undergraduate student employees, including, hiring, training and scheduling 5. Work to improve the quality and consistency of laboratory operations (e.g., taxonomy, sorting, and quality control/quality assurance procedures)
1. MS in aquatic sciences or related field pertinent to the position 2. Expertise in invertebrate ecology and biomonitoring 3. Proficiency with GIS, Access, and R 4. Effective interpersonal and verbal communication and writing skills
Office Environment: Employees are protected from weather conditions or contaminants, but not necessarily occasional temperature changes. Outdoor Environment: Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.
