Position title: Researcher
Company: EBSCO Research LLC, a division of EBSCO Industries, Inc.
Location: Atlanta, GA
Position type: Part-time – Evenings only
Reports to: Manager of Research & Transcription
Salary: Commission-based ($12-$13/hour average)
Cover letter: Optional
Who we are:
We are a close-knit research team in a modestly sized independent research firm (EBSCO Research LLC) that is a division of a large, international corporation (EBSCO Industries, Inc.). We conduct telephone research on the home repair market and publish the results of our research annually in consumer guides across eight cities.
First off – this is NOT a sales or telemarketing position! Our researchers do not sell anything or push people to talk if it’s obvious that they don’t want to stay on the phone.
Rather, this position consists simply of calling homeowners to ask them about home service companies they’ve used recently (for example: roofers, painters, plumbers, etc.). As a new researcher, you would start by going through a fair amount of training before starting to use the phones –and we wouldn’t put you on the phone until you felt comfortable.
The conversations our researchers have are professional but informal; there is plenty of room to inject some personality into the conversations. Our current researchers all have a competitive spirit and constantly compete to see who can gather the most information.
Two great perks of the job are the casual dress code and the free coffee (be sure to let us know your favorite coffee when we call you)! We believe that comfort is key, essential to your gathering the most information and making the most money.
Pay is based on how much data you bring in, and it averages between $12 and $13 per hour. This position is really what you make of it – we’ve seen many people making upwards of $15 per hour.
We need for people who want to work evenings, at least 3 times a week. Shifts are available Monday through Thursday from 5pm to 9pm.
Who we’re looking for:
We are looking for people who are energized, pumped-up, and excited about the idea of being paid to talk on the phone at night. Our goal is for you to have friendly, engaging conversations so we can find out who the very best companies are. And though our researchers are hardworking, our office definitely has a laid-back vibe.
We should note that every once in a while you may speak with someone who isn’t exactly excited to have been called out of the blue by a stranger. It’s the nature of the job, but a pleasant personality always seems to get people to really open up and share their experiences. We are looking for people who are able to shrug off the occasional rejection and focus the majority of their energy on the more frequent positive conversations and intriguing stories.
What we would consider a huge bonus:
- 1 year of college coursework completed
- Type a minimum of 35 wpm (A typing test will be given in order to qualify for an interview.)
- GPA of 3.0 or higher
- 1 year experience doing telephone work
- Background in customer service, sales, or performing arts
