This position is located at the Rehab Center for the Blind. The position provides for the safety and security of visually impaired, blind and deaf-blind students in a residential environment. Instructs student(s) in techniques of daily living and other adaptive skills in the dormitories, community and assists with recreational activities. Assists students with personal hygiene and grooming, use of assistive technology, clothing management, orientation to the dorm and community, adaptive cooking and eating skills; provides assistance with reading, homework, recreational activities and outings. Also sets up students' rooms, provides emergency transportation and inventory of linen and supplies. Duties and responsibilities are carried out with considerable independence.
Work Schedule: Sunday - Thursday, 3:30 p.m. - 12:00 a.m.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
General knowledge of residential life for the blind, deaf-blind, and other populations with more serious health complications. Considerable knowledge of techniques of daily living skills and orientation and mobility. A general knowledge of dormitory maintenance (safety, operations, first aid, housekeeping, food preparation, nutrition) procedures, as well as an ability to understand and administer dormitory rules and regulations.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from high school and two years of experience in age appropriate child care setting; or in a goaled program setting; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
