Department/Division Purpose:

The Community Education Training and Pre-College Programs is an auxiliary division of Pueblo
Community College. CETD provides non-credit course offerings for the public; provides contract
training for community partners, youth programs, pre-college programs: Adult Basic Education,
Alternative High School Diploma, Gateway to College Programs and Hope Bridge for former
offenders.

Job Summary Statement:

The Pre College Program Resource Specialist is responsible for providing a broad range of services in support of students enrolled in Pre College Programs. Incumbent initiates student contact to ensure student success within programs, provides career and vocational advising, admissions advising, classroom instruction and tutoring, and counsel on attendance and other issues. Researches and evaluates available community services in assisting students to remove barriers, and develops and implements recruitment and retention strategies and builds meaningful relationships with students. Designs and delivers workshops, small training sessions, and instructs classes for student success. Incumbent in this classification works independently and as a team member to ensure overall student success. Applicants should be available during hours of program operations, which include evenings and Saturdays.

Essential Functions:

Student Advising: Advises students on program requirements. Develops academic goals. Evaluates student academic history and education, including transcript evaluation. Introduces students to resources available throughout the college. Assists students in career exploration.

Recruitment/Retention: Makes presentations to schools, community organizations, churches and other groups to explain programs. Work collaboratively with faculty and part time instructors, department chair, and other departments to facilitate and address student and program needs. Develop strategies for keeping at-risk students in class and engaged. Interface with school districts and community support agencies to determine how to best support the needs of the participants and the program partners. Participate in pre-college program information sessions, orientations and graduations.

Instructional: Provide classroom support, manage classroom activities and ensure classroom is prepared for daily use. Experience with curriculum development and instructional delivery. Assists in the development of curriculum for seminars, workshops, and other customized courses to support CETD.

Student Support Services: Teaches appropriate classes for student success. Serves as a tutor and instructor in Pre College Program labs. Provides support for students experiencing family, personal, or economic crises, which may affect school performance. Helps students access needed counseling services, support networks, community health, or housing services. Consults with a variety of social service agencies in the community to explain program requirements or address individual student progress or needs. Coordinates activities to introduce students to available community services and campus resources.

Recordkeeping and Reporting: Maintains accurate case notes and documentation. Maintains an active hardcopy file and up-to-date database tracking on each enrolled student. Ensures confidentiality is maintained. Maintains statistical information and summary information in reports as needed. .

Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications for the position they are seeking as of the date of the application, unless otherwise specified. Experience will be based upon a full-time, 40-hour work week. Part-time experience will be pro-rated. Part-time teaching experience will be based on a ratio of 36 credit hours = 1 year of experience.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, or related field

Licenses or Certifications:

N/A

Experience:

Two years teaching experience with young adults (preferably in high school or community college setting).

Two years working with at-risk, populations in a multi-cultural and/or academic environment.

Three years demonstrated experience working with diverse populations

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

Demonstrated effective communication skills, including an ability to effectively communicate orally and in written form, both in public presentations and one-on-one. Includes the ability to maintain a professional demeanor during emotionally charged situations and to explain policies and procedures, rules and regulations in a non-threatening manner.

Knowledge of local social service agencies and other resources

Master’s Degree

Licenses or Certifications:

Secondary Teaching License

Experience:

Three or more years’ experience working directly with at-risk, diverse populations in instruction and or counseling positions.

Special knowledge, skills, abilities:

Knowledge of technical software applications, i.e. WIN, WorkKeys®. Knowledge of student support systems within a college environment and within the community.

Salary Information

$30,000 base salary, plus additional compensation based on education and experience. In addition to salary, PCC offers an excellent benefits package which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement.
