RESOURCE TEACHER: BILINGUAL/ESL EDUCATION, GRADES 3, 4 & 5

JOB DESCRIPTION:
To provide direct instructional support to teachers of culturally and linguistically diverse students in bilingual education.

Qualifications:EDUCATION AND LICENSURE:
Requires:
Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Valid New Mexico Teacher’s license.

Endorsements in Bilingual and TESOL education.

Three years teaching bilingual in elementary or secondary school setting.

Teach 3rd, 4th, 5th bilingual and 5th grade ESL. Student bilingual and ESL testing.

Responsibilities:ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Incumbent must achieve the following outcomes with or without reasonable accommodation:

Provides direct instruction to bilingual, ESL and general education teachers in best practices for students in bilingual programs.

Provides demonstration lessons for teachers as appropriate.

Provides assistance to school staffs in the development, implementation and assessment of bilingual language curriculum.

Serves on district committees and task forces as designated by the supervisor.

Assists teachers in identified programs with the development of bilingual literacy.

EXPERIENCE:
Preferences: Effective communication skills, both verbal and written. Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.

Interpersonal skills with diverse populations in-person and on the telephone. Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.

Knowledge of word processing, database and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of: second language acquisition, educational foundations, assessment, instructional planning, curriculum, materials and school-community relations.

Knowledge of bilingual literacy development. Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, child abuse/neglect and substance abuse.

Master’s degree in bilingual education or related field preferred.
