The Respiratory Care Supervisor supervises the activities of the Respiratory Care staff and provides care on all physician-ordered respiratory therapy interventions. Primary supervisory activities include, but are not limited to: staff scheduling to assure adequate and optimal staff to patient ratios, ordering supplies and maintaining adequate inventory, assessing the quality of care delivered by Respiratory Care staff on a daily basis and intervening, as needed, to improve performance, serving as a departmental liaison, assisting the Director with development and implementation of policies, protocols and procedures, and actively participating in all aspects of the Performance Improvement process. Additional supervisory responsibilities include assisting the Director with special projects, as assigned. The Respiratory Care Supervisor demonstrates a level of expertise in the clinical competencies described in Competency Requirements section, so as to provide on-going education and performance improvement of the Respiratory Care staff and students.
2 year/Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy from an accredited college or university required
4 year/Bachelor Degree in Respiratory Therapy, Math or Science field preferred
1-3 years experience working as a RRT in an acute care hospital setting required
More than 5 years Working as an RRT in an acute care hospital setting; experience in adult critical care and emergency department patient care - preferred
1-3 years supervisory/management experience preferred
1-3 years experience with neonatal resuscitation and care preferred
Analytical skills - Able to assess complicated patient care scenarios including subjective assessment and objective evaluation of a variety of data made available from monitors and test results. Also able to work with data in spreadsheet formats.
Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize - Able to balance and effectively prioritize a variety of responsibilities on a daily basis. Primary daily responsibilities include staff scheduling to assure optimal staff/patient ratios, performing direct patient care when needed and completing other supervisory responsibilities such as ordering and management of supplies, providing support and education to staff and students and attending all shift emergent patient calls.
Verbal Communication skills - Excellent communication skills needed to provide superb customer service to team members, patients and family members, visitors, vendors, members of the medical staff.
License, Registration and/or Certification:
Respiratory Therapy Licensure by the state of Kansas required
Healthcare Provider CPR (American Heart Association ONLY) certification required
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) required
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required within 30 days
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification within 90 days
