Under direction of the Respiratory Care Management Team the incumbent coordinates and facilitates the education and QI programs for the Department, and acts as safety officer. In addition the incumbent will assist the Director in the ongoing revision and implementation of departmental policies and procedures, protocol development and implementation and provide orientation to new personnel. Serves as a resource and education/instructor person for physicians and other hospital employees including Respiratory Care personnel. Provide input regarding new equipment for purchase, and assist the leadership staff in review incidents and occurrence reports to maintain the department’s goals. Coordinates and manages the Independence University / Renown Apprentice program of 4-5 students / apprentices. Also coordinates the student rotation for all participating Respiratory Care College programs.
Nature and Scope:
In conjunction with the management team this position is challenged to coordinate and facilitate departmental education and competency, organize, update and implement the orientation program for new respiratory care personnel, maintain the departmental quality improvement program in conformance with Renown Regional Medical Centers and Joint Commission standards, revise and update departmental Policies and Procedures.
“Respiratory Care” means the treatment, management, diagnostic testing, control and care of persons with deficiencies and abnormalities associated with the cardiopulmonary system. The incumbent has the authority to perform and evaluate respiratory care given, to initiate CPR, to contact physicians in relation to care ordered, and perform all activities as assigned. The incumbent provides support to the patient care staff, assessors and team leaders as needed.
The incumbent is accountable for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric patients and families. He/She must demonstrate the ability to work with patient’s physical, motor/sensory adaptation, cognitive and psychosocial needs specific to the population being served, and meets standards of quality as measured by the Unit/Department age specific competency standards.
In collaboration with the management team, this position has the authority to develop and schedule education and competency programs, develop and implement QI and research programs, deliver local anesthetics and other inhaled medications, to initiate CPR, or other emergency measures. This position attends departmental leadership meetings.
Decisions that must be referred to the manager are those pertaining to personnel, supplies, equipment acquisition and final format and content of policies and procedures, competency and orientation programs and QI programs.

Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Masters degree in a Healthcare or Education related field is preferred.
Minimum of five years Respiratory Care experience in an acute care setting. Two years of teaching (education) experience required.
(1) Current Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Respiratory Care Practitioner License.
(2) Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada State Board of Medical Examiners Respiratory Care Practitioner license.
(3) Required to obtain keep current a Nevada State license for "Blood Gas Technologist" within 30 days of employment.
(1) Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC.
(2) Current AHA BLS certification required. ACLS, PALS, NRP and Instructor certification required within 90 days of hire.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc .
