The Retirement Compliance Specialist is responsible for Pension Committee and Pension Sub-Committee meeting materials and follow-up. In addition, this position will act as a liaison with Health Ministries, as needed, to support the compliance functions of the retirement program, assist with the annual non-discrimination testing and assist on special projects relating retirement program compliance and Health Ministry workforce support including mergers, acquisitions, and other workforce events.

This position requires a high level of technical skills and the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally to the governance Committees that are responsible for fiduciary management of the retirement programs.

Responsibilities:

Compliance: Complete compliance activities, program correction policies, plan documents, Summary Plan Descriptions, Health Ministry resolutions and addendums, and any necessary federal or state filings (e.g., determination letter filings).

Regulatory Activity: Maintain a working knowledge of all regulatory issues affecting the retirement program, provide appropriate information to senior leadership, including health ministry representatives, and governance committees.

Health Ministry Consulting: Support Health Ministries in addressing the retirement program aspects of their workforce issues, including plan assessments, adoptions, and spinoffs associated with mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures as well as other workforce events (reductions, outsourcing, early retirement windows, transfers, etc.). Also, support Health Ministry specific issues such as the alignment of plan provisions and data submission consistent with national program standards.

Pension Committee and Pension Subcommittee Support : Establish meeting dates for the Committees, post Committee materials to board portal, draft Committee materials, serve as secretary to the Committees, and provide follow-up material as needed.

Compliance Testing : Assist with coordination of annual non-discrimination testing completed by savings plan record keeper, including ADP/ACP, coverage and general tests.

Special Projects : As assigned, performs special projects commensurate with the needs, responsibilities, and scope of the position.

Qualifications:
  • Requires a minimum of a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources Management, or related field with a Masters degree preferred
  • At least five years experience in retirement benefit plan compliance. Demonstrated skill and experience in being able to understand applicable laws and regulations and apply them to practical situations.
  • Personal Skills, Aptitudes & Qualities: The position requires a mature individual who is conscientious, detail-oriented, and highly organized with the ability to schedule and complete a significant amount of work within time requirements. The individual must have excellent problem solving and communication (written and oral) skills.
  • Some travel may be required
