We are currently recruiting for a Risk Management Claims Specialist.

Job Summary

The Risk Management Claims Specialist is an internal liaison for Iron Mountain’s casualty claims with a significant focus on workers compensation claims. This role interfaces with field operations, human resources and claims administrators to ensure that claims information is exchanged and claims are being properly managed to a timely and cost effective conclusion. This position is also responsible for maintaining ongoing communication with all injured workers and ensuring they are following through with recommended treatment, are progressing medically and that we respond to any of their questions or concerns. This position also supports the risk management team with administrative tasks including certificates of insurance and allocation models.

Essential Functions

Claims triage- Daily overview of all new claims within assigned territory. Identify all red flags on each claim. Contact with field, injured worker and claims administrator in adherence to established triage process. Channel medical treatment where allowable by state statute. Review compensability determination by claims administrator and challenge when appropriate.

Claims oversight- On-going involvement in setting claim strategies, responding to field inquiries regarding claim status, communication with injured workers, adjusters, field operations and human resources. Ensure all necessary cost remediation measures are in place including medical management and vendor oversight. Participate in claims reviews conducted by claims administrators. Prepare and lead internal claim reviews within territory.

Temporary Transitional Work Program- Responsible for ensuring all key stakeholders within assigned territory are knowledgeable and utilizing the program. Immediate identification of qualification for and advocacy of Temporary Transitional Assignments (TTA). Communicate with injured workers throughout their return to a TTA. Coordination with off-site TTA vendor when necessary. Maintain and analyze metrics of TTWP within territory.

Reserve and settlement authority- Responsible for evaluating all reserve and settlement requests from claims administrator within settlement authority granted. Ensure that the case has a proper resolution strategy and that the reserves proposed are appropriate for the case facts and strategy. Reduce employment complaints and litigation by providing guidance on settlement discussion and ensuring consistency of settlement practices across all territories.

As assigned, completes Risk Management team projects and ongoing work. Examples include oversight of certificates of insurance, allocation model reports, mail delivery and other assigned tasks.

Job Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to forge relationships with key stakeholders within the claims process. Ability to provide written and oral communication with human resources, claims administrators, attorneys, medical case management, investigators and all those involved in claims management process.

Must have technical knowledge and experience with the workers compensation process. Technical expertise in multiple state workers compensation statutes is a plus. Technical knowledge and experience with auto and general liability claims a plus.

Excellent analytical and investigatory skills and ability to identify ‘red flags’. Strong negotiating skills.

Ability to persuade key players to accomplish objectives that support business needs while being mindful of financial impact on the P&L.

General knowledge of insurance and risk management principals desired.

Leadership:
The role has no supervisory responsibilities but does require leadership to the territories and human resources within subject matter expertise of claims management.

Problem Solving:
The job requires complex judgments, in-depth analysis, interpretative thinking and the ability to independently develop innovative solutions.

Nature of Impact:
Directly impacts the P&L of the business.

Area of Impact:
The job impacts the territory/area/NAO results.

Interpersonal Skills:
The job requires a high degree of tact and diplomacy. Position will handle sensitive issues and must be sensitive to audience diversity. Developed communication skills required to exchange complicated and sensitive information.
