REPORTS TO Engineering Manager: High Performance Road


In this position you will be a key part of our High Performance Road development team working with Engineers, designers, product managers, test labs and factories. Good verbal and written communication skills are very important in our fast-paced working environment. You’ll be responsible for the creation and assembly of prototypes, giving feedback to the development team, and testing management of all road bike related products. A successful candidate will relish being challenged by new designs and concepts that make road bikes more relevant and inspirational to our customers.

  • Collaborate with designers, product managers, developers & marketing to help develop and produce meaningful and innovative products that inspire cyclists & lead the industry
  • Brainstorm new product concepts and ideas & work to gain insight for the needs of this category
  • Attend trade shows for inspiration and to stay current with trends
  • Travel internationally to our factories in Asia
  • Work with our testing and demo teams as well as S-Racing (i.e. ProTour teams) to get feedback on current and future products.

Product assembly and Development
  • Work with Engineering and Product Management to develop technical samples and prototype Road parts
  • Build sample frames from production and prototype parts
  • Communicate potential problems to engineers and product managers
  • Interface with our field test coordinator to prepare product for field testing
  • Organize small parts library (seat collars, derailleur hangers, nuts, bolts., etc…) for Road
  • Check prototypes for accuracy, create and maintain documents for:
    • Geometry check
    • Alignment check
    • Component Compatibility
Product Testing
  • Work closely with the Test Lab to help ensure that safety and quality control standards have been adhered to
  • Prepare test samples for testing (unboxing and documenting incoming product, any modifications required for compatibility with our test fixtures)
  • Create test plans for all products and be responsible for making sure all products are completely tested in our labs
  • Perform laboratory tests on prototype and production products
  • X-section tested product and assist engineers in creating manufacturing quality documents
  • Work with test lab personnel to track test results and keep databases up to date
  • Support quality control efforts to maintain product quality during the production cycle
  • Work with supplier test labs to expedite the testing process and check that the tests are being performed correctly
Other Responsibilities
  • Make occasional visits to factories to check on development of prototypes or assist with production bike assembly SOP
  • Perform inspections of prototypes and production parts
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Engineering and Product Management
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Ideal candidate has 5 years of experience as a bicycle mechanic. Outstanding candidates with less experience will also be considered, depending on background.
  • Extensive experience with carbon fiber and aluminum road bikes
  • Ability to assemble and maintain all parts of a bicycle
  • Machine shop skills using lathe, mill, welder, etc. are desirable
  • Ability to make decisions and recommendations regarding function, fit, and finish of manufactured parts
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment & complete tasks within product creation timelines
  • Excellent command of the English language in both written and verbal formats
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with in-house staff, vendors and foreign contacts
  • Requires Microsoft Excel and Word software skills
