Nature and Scope of Job : Provides relief for both elementary and secondary kitchen managers of district sites. Performs supervisory and operational activities related to on-site school meal preparation and presentation, staff management, and financial records management for the Nutrition Services operation.

Education, Licenses, Certification or Formal Training:
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • ServSafe Certificate within 6 months of employment
  • Supervision training or management training required
  • Certification by School Nutrition Association is beneficial
  • Valid Colorado driver's license
  • Meet current district vehicle insurance qualifications for driving coverage
Qualifications : Basic math, writing, reading, communication, food preparation, customer service, negotiating, and supervisory skills. Knowledge of large quantity food preparation and health department standards of sanitary food practices. Ability to manage multiple tasks in a stressful environment and deal with difficult situations and people. Operating knowledge of and experience with institutional food preparation equipment. Operating knowledge of microcomputers, QSP point of sale system, and Inventory Management Program. Regularly required to communicate, coordinate, compute, synthesize, evaluate, use interpersonal skills, and negotiate. Frequently required to compare, analyze, instruct, and compile. Occasionally required to copy.

Essential Job Functions :
  • Job duties/responsibilities listed below to be carried out at permanently assigned "home kitchen" or other district satellite kitchens or both daily. This position requires the ability to travel to and work in a variety of district sites.
  • Maintains open communication with home site manager, satellite site managers and foreman. (Daily, 2%)
  • Performs and supervises activities related to food preparation per federal, state, and district guidelines. (Daily, 20%)
  • Completes, compiles, and/or runs various daily and monthly reports including menu worksheets, time sheets, meal planning, ordering of food and non-food, participation reports, National Meal Benefits reports, meal/cash reconciliation, and completing cash deposits, and emergency rosters. (Daily, 15%)
  • Trains and evaluates employees in food preparation, portion control, and food handling, proper and safe use of all equipment and sanitation, marketing strategies, customer relations, etc. (Daily, 6%)
  • Oversees and serves customers, maintains orderly food service line, supervises students as needed in the cafeteria. (Daily, 25%)
  • Performs and/or supervises maintenance of data entered on customer accounts including receiving money, change of free and reduced status, change of address, special recommendations or restrictions from parents, setting up new account, assigning PIN number, refunding money to customers, and deleting customers withdrawing/leaving the district. Performs and/or supervises the procedure for the completion of monthly reports. (Daily, 5%)
  • Schedules and adjusts employee hours and assignments based on staffing needs of each site. Schedules self into rotation. Implements and communicates operating changes to daily routine, processes, and menus. (Daily, 5%)
  • Performs and/or supervises or physically counts all food and non-food supplies and records the quantities on the inventory form and in inventory control software. (Monthly, 10%)
  • Discusses nutrition regulations and all aspects of nutrition program with building principal, secretary, students, parents, teachers, other managers, and the community. (Daily, 1%)
  • Follows procedure on past due student meal accounts. (Weekly, 5%)
  • Performs and/ or supervises the procedure for the completion of monthly reports. (Monthly, 4%)
  • Implements promotions and marketing programs for the child nutrition programs. (Monthly, 2%)
  • Attends meetings to receive and implement information vital to effective operations in cooperation with Nutrition programs and schools. (Monthly, 1%)
  • Attends training programs and workshops. (Annually, 2%)
  • Perform other duties as assigned. (Ongoing 5%)
