Obtains or receives merchandise, totals bill, accepts payment, and makes change for customers in retail store by performing the following duties :
Essential Functions :
Stocks shelves, counters, or tables with merchandise.
Sets up advertising displays or arranges merchandise on counters or tables to promote sales.
Stamps, marks, or tags price on merchandise.
Obtains merchandise requested by customer or receives merchandise selected by customer.
Answers customer's questions concerning location, price, and use of merchandise.
Totals price and tax on merchandise purchased by customer to determine bill.
Accepts payment and makes change.
Wraps or bags merchandise for customers.
Cleans shelves, counters, or tables.
Removes and records amount of cash in register at end of shift.
Calculates sales discount to determine price.
Keeps record of sales, prepares inventory of stock, and orders merchandise.
Requisitions merchandise from supplier based on available space, merchandise on hand, customer demand, or advertised specials.
Recommends items to be placed on sale or to be highlighted in sales promotions.
Additional Responsibilities :
Performs other similar or related duties as requested or assigned.
One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences. Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance. To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of email, spreadsheet software, word processing software and presentation software.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear, to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must routinely lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Mental Activities: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to read, speak, write and understand English, and must regularly use customer service skills. The employee will frequently use interpersonal and teamwork skills. The employee must occasionally use decision making skills, creativity, discretion, training and supervision skills; perform problem analysis, and exercise independent judgment.
