Analyzes and defines SAP financial/material management and project systems functions and business processes and user needs and performs functional configuration and maintenance tasks for the District's SAP financial/material management and project systems modules according to operational and business needs.

Minimum Qualifications for Admittance to Exam

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university preferably with a major in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, computer information systems, management information systems or a related field AND two years of recent, full-time, professional-level, paid experience in the functional configuration, modification or maintenance of a SAP financial/material management system.

OR

Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university preferably with a major in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, computer information systems, management information systems or a related field AND four years of recent, full-time, professional-level, paid experience in finance, accounting, contracts, purchasing or closely related area, two years of which must have included participation in the functional configuration, modification or maintenance of a SAP financial/material management system.

OR

A master's degree from a recognized four-year college or university with a major in finance, accounting, business administration, public administration, computer information systems, management information systems or a closely related field AND two years of recent, full-time, professional-level, paid experience in finance, accounting, contracts, purchasing or closely related area which included participation in the functional configuration, modification or maintenance of a SAP financial/material management system.

SPECIAL: A valid Class "C" California driver's license must be obtained within 60 days of appointment. Access to an automobile.

Knowledges, Skills, and Abilities Required

KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles of SAP finance systems modules such as FI, Budget Control System, Funds Management and Position and Budget Control
Principles of SAP material management system modules such as procurement and inventory management
Principles of SAP project systems module
Fundamentals of systems analysis, functional configuration and testing
Methods of developing operational process specifications
Characteristics and capabilities of state-of-the art technology in financial/material management information processing
Principles and practices of accounting, procurement, and financial reporting
Industry and professional standards for key business systems, procedures, and methods pertinent to assigned area
Principles of program documentation
Principles of report, screen, and form design
Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, codes, and regulations related to financial/material management information processing
Principles of training
Principles of organization and management
Principles of work simplification and modification

ABILITY TO:
Analyze existing manual and computerized operational procedures involving financial information processing systems and develop improvements
Develop and document operational and technical processes, functions, and procedures involving SAP financial modules and develop appropriate solutions
Perform functional configuration, modification and testing tasks involving SAP financial/material management and project systems modules
Analyze operational problems involving SAP financial/material management and project systems modules and develop appropriate solutions
Express concepts clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
Write clear and comprehensive reports, instructions, and training materials
Write clear and logical documentation
Interpret and apply applicable rules, laws, and procedures to financial operations
Work effectively and independently on assigned projects
Work effectively and cooperatively with administrators, staff, users, project consultants and vendors
Provide technical assistance to users
Train system users effectively
Meet established priorities and project schedules
Present and lead discussions on SAP financial/material management and project systems functionality as it relates to current operational needs

Typical Duties

Analyzes and evaluates existing business functions and processes of the District related to general accounting, accounts receivable/payable, specially funded, inventory, enterprise accounting, budget, and procurement activities.
Interfaces with functional unit process owners and users to identify, define and document operational needs and objectives, current operational procedures, problems, input and output requirements, and levels of systems access.
Defines and documents SAP financial/material management and project systems transactions and processes in support of processes defined by functional unit process owners.
Performs functional configuration tasks for the SAP financial/material management and project systems modules to satisfy requests from end users for fixes, changes, and enhancements.
Performs unit and integration testing and troubleshoots problems with the SAP financial/material management and project systems modules after release strategy changes and/or upgrades and other functional configuration changes have been created and makes changes in configurations to resolve errors.
Interfaces with users to interpret and clarify functional configuration details and process change requirements involving SAP financial/material management and project systems modules.
Acts as a liaison between departmental end-users and programming personnel in the analysis, design, functional configuration, testing and maintenance of SAP financial/material management and project systems modules to ensure optimal system performance.
Tracks and documents changes in functional and business specifications and writes detailed procedures that can be easily understood by end-users.
Identifies opportunities for improving business processes in partnership with process owners and management through SAP financial/material management and project systems and associated information systems.
Analyzes the feasibility of, and develops requirements for, new systems and enhancements to existing systems, and ensures that the system designs fits the needs of the users.
Provides technical assistance in training, mentoring, and coaching professional and technical staff on matters related to assigned area.
Trains users and supports training in the usage of SAP financial/material management and project systems functionality.
Maintains effective and cooperative working relationships with process owners, District staff, project consultants, and vendors.
Performs related duties as assigned.
