SAP Functional Consultant
This position is within the PPG Optical and Specialty Materials (O&SM) business segment located at PPG's campus in Monroeville, Pennsylvania. Our businesses are dedicated to developing, manufacturing and supplying materials that anticipate the demanding challenges of the global Optical and Precipitated Silicas industries. In this role you will be an active member of an Information Technology team that is integral to business operations supporting the SAP ECC Finance and Costing (FICO) modules. This position is responsible for blueprinting and design for new projects or enhancements, system configuration, writing functional specifications and working with ABAP developers as needed, testing, development of training material, training, and ongoing user support. Travel required as needed for site visits will be < 20%. You will be expected to acquire and maintain a strong knowledge of key business processes related to these modules and adjacent areas. The primary job skills include an in-depth SAP knowledge in SAP FICO modules, gained through certified training and experience. This includes a minimum of two (2) full project cycles. You will be expected to bring SAP expertise in the related functional business areas. A working knowledge of Master Data Management processes and best practice techniques would be an advantage to the successful candidate.
This role also provides strategic consultancy support to the Business and corporate shared finance functional areas in definition and design of business processes. This includes research and identification of enabling technologies based on customer requirements. The Consultant maintains credibility and effective working relations with both customer management and IT personnel in a way that demonstrates an understanding of business problems, as well as IT strategies, issues, and priorities. They ally with other IT functional areas to remain apprised of project status and inform customer management of progress; conversely, they also keep the IT group's technology and service managers aware of current or future user issues or resolve conflicts.
Based on knowledge of SAP configuration alternatives, you will be responsible for proactively identifying opportunities to improve business processes. You are expected to have experience in both process redesign and the strategic application of technology to facilitate process improvements. The Consultant will also provide services such as facilitating priority setting, brokering contracts on behalf of customers, and advising on functionality, costs, and benefits of proposed solutions.
You will be expected to broker services within the IT community on behalf of your customers and function as a process and functional expert. The successful candidate must be polished at forging relationships within the business they serve as well as retaining rapport with other IT groups. Negotiation, selling and getting to consensus are key attributes of the successful consultant.
Experience and Education
Strong working knowledge of SAP FICO modules, with experience through at least two implementation cycles.
Extensive knowledge of Finance business (A/P, A/R, G/L, costing, closing, etc.) processes; business experience outside of IT is desirable.
A working knowledge of Master Data Management processes and best practice techniques is desired, as well as basic SAP ECC and BI/BeX reporting.
Experience in business process re-engineering utilizing tools and techniques to effect business change
Strong technical knowledge and ability to express complex technical concepts in terms that are understandable to the business
Experienced in project management and execution of enterprise projects
Strong analytical and conceptual skills; a demonstrated track record in new concept development for various projects and complex technical plans
Ability to solve problems spanning multiple environments and cultures in a business area
Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with all management levels
Ability to be comfortable in a nonhierarchical, flat organization and, if required, operate under a dual reporting relationship; ability to thrive in a somewhat unstructured hands on environment that demands a consultative approach and solutions that span business areas
