As a Computer Scientist (Software) in the Test, Evaluation and Experimentation Division, within the Carrier and Amphibious Ship Combat System Test Branch, at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, Dahlgren, VA, you will develop and present proposals and schedules relating to the capabilites and development of the simulations tools. You will also perform combat systems testing with foundational knowledge of networking protocols, database management, and common operating systems such as Linus and Microsoft Windows.

DUTIES:
This position is located at Naval Surface Warfare Center Dahlgren Division, Dahlgren, VA. As a Computer Scientist (Software) in the Test, Evaluation and Experimentation Division, within the Carrier and Amphibious Ship Combat System Test Branch, duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Design, implementation, maintenance, and business development activities for simulation products that support phases of Surface Combat Systems development.
  • Provide leadership to teams including mentoring and cross-training of junior engineers.
  • Work with program offices and other field activities and proactively support the vision for an overall Combat System Enterprise Simulation capability.
  • Support combat systems such as AEGIS, Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense (BMD), Littoral Combat Systems (LCS) and Ship Self-Defense System (SSDS)
  • Participate in funding including generating Statements of Work (SOWs) and estimating Rough Order of Magnitude (ROM) resource costs.

The Office of Personnel Management has identified the following minimum educational requirements for this position:

A degree in computer science OR bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of my 30 semester hours were in a combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus.

In addition to the basic education requirement, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower band, ND-03 (GS-09/11 equivalency) in the Federal service performing as a professional computer scientist in the development and maintenance of simulation tools for combat systems. Examples of qualifying experience may include, but are not limited to: coding software utilizing common computer languages; verifying and validating software programs; conducting engineering and system analysis of systems and systems of systems; and/or coordinating software development projects.

This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA) and requires additional training, experience and possibly education. Applicants should meet the DAWIA Certification requirements for the Systems Planning, Research, Development & Engineering-Systems Engineering Career Field and be certified at Level III at the time of application.
