This position is located in the Acquisition & Technology Department, Detect Division and works with DODs Research, Development, Test & Evaluation Explosive Detection Equipment Program.

As a Scientist, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
Planning and conducting complex chemical and physical analyses in order to support the development and analysis of explosive detection and identification systems, tools, methods and procedures.
- Planning and conducting test procedures and professional physical scientific research on explosive detection equipment to determine if materials should be rejected or accepted, equipment should be reworked, or if a product can be improved.
- Evaluating analytical, physical, and structural information to derive chemical composition and reactivity of unknown materials in order to draw appropriate conclusions and make recommendations.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
ND-03: One year of experience equivalent to the next lower band ND-02 (GS-5/8) in the Federal service or in the private sector using analytical chemistry laboratory instruments, compiling and interpreting data, and producing technical writing.
Two years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
ND-04: Experience equivalent to the next lower band ND-03 (GS-9/11) in the Federal service or in the private sector performing chemical testing or analysis on explosive related materials or products.
The Office of Personnel Management has identified the following minimum educational requirements for this position:
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study or specific course requirements physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
A combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
