SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) Laboratory Technician

What You’ll Do

Support all activities in a SEM/metallurgical/microscopy lab including sample preparation, crossectioning and polishing of samples, inspection, photodocumentation, and elemental analysis by SEM-EDS or SEM-XRF. Sample types include solder joints, weld joints, electrical components, PWBs, etc. Participate in team performing failure investigations. Familiarity with MIL-STD-1580, MIL-STD-883, MIL-PRF-55110, MIL-P-50884, MIL-PRF-31032, and/or IPC-A-600 beneficial. General maintenance and calibration of equipment. Experience with operation of SEM, optical microscopes, digital microscopes, manual/automated grinding and polishing equipment, and metallurgical specimen mounting equipment essential. Daily use of Microsoft office suite.

Secondary Responsibilities:
Provide assitance in other areas of the laboratory including sampling, NVR analysis, Partical count analysis, FTIR operation, FTIR interpretation, GCMS analysis, vacuum exposure testing, outgas testing, lubrication development and testing, and general laboratory activities.

What You Need

High School Diploma and 8 or more years or a two year technical degree and 4 or more years relevant experience. Ability to perform any and all tasks in Ball technician requirements. Candidate must have good interpersonal skills and work well in a team environment. Excellent verbal and written communication and listening skills are a requirement. Must be able to work with typical chemicals and equipment used in chemical and physical laboratory environment. Candidate is required to successfully complete internal technical and health and safety certifications. Willingness and ability to obtain security clearance, if required.

Security Clearance:
Successful applicant for this position must be eligible to obtain a DoD clearance. A current DoD clearance is not required to be eligible for this position, however the successful applicant will be required to obtain a DoD clearance within a reasonable time after the offer is extended and must be able to maintain the applicable clearance.
