Tied to our Janssen 2020 strategy, this position directly impacts "exploring new spaces" so that Janssen can grow its early development pipeline. The Venture Leader will
lead and manage all aspects of start up and execution of the Venture mission including: staffing, creating and influencing the team with respect to the mission and deliverables, establishing critical milestones, measures, timelines and budgets. Manage the Venture to deliver its milestones on time and on budget. Prepare and facilitate Venture Board of Director meetings to obtain needed direction and support. Publicize and market the Venture value to create options for exit at the end of the Venture funding timeline.
Responsible for the development of all employees within the Venture by supporting the development of Human Resources Planning (HRP) programs including management development and training to meet current and future business needs. The scope of the internal ventures will have a range of 4-11 FTEs and a budget of $3.5-$12M over a period of 2 years. These positions will need to navigate through operating complexity including partnerships and collaborations internal and external to J&J.
Key Areas of Responsibility include: Develop and articulate a clear and compelling vision of the new venture that includes and integrates hypotheses, strategy, business case, unique value creation, goals, objectives and anticipated results. Transition the preliminary business plan into a multi-year program of design, development, clinical trials and product commercialization. This detailed program will include mission, objectives, business case, clearly defined milestones, linkage of technical and commercial milestones, resource and funding requirements, budget and measurable deliverables. Execute the business plan to achieve milestones and reduce risk. Recruit (as needed), assess, and develop high-performing, entrepreneurial talent who will execute and achieve the technical and commercial milestones of the business plan. Provide stakeholders clear status of the venture and each milestone success and failure to keep them informed, engaged, and committed to venture's mission. Recognize and capitalize on opportunities to adapt the venture's business in light of unforeseen developments.
Minimum of 10 plus years of progressive experience in pharmaceutical/healthcare/life sciences industries. Background in pharmaceutical product development and commercialization. Proven track record of successfully leading and delivering results through people. Technical and scientific knowledge in the focus area of the Venture. Formal business training is a plus. Proven ability or clear potential to demonstrate Venture Leader Competencies. An undergraduate degree in life sciences as well as advanced degree or MBA is required.
