OCCUPATION: PROBATION OFFICERS AND CORRECTIONAL TREATMENT SPECIALISTS
This is work providing social services to assist in rehabilitation of juvenile law offenders in custody or on probation or parole. Incumbents make recommendations for actions involving formulation of rehabilitation plan and treatment of offender, including conditional release and education and employment stipulations.
Some positions in this occupation may be responsible for coordinating work and supervising employees.
Successful candidate must be certified in accordance with the Department of Juvenile Justice Direct Care Training Policy and must obtain such certification within 180 days of employment.
In order to obtain certification, the candidate must attend and successfully complete a mandatory residential training academy located in Quincy, Florida.
CPR & First Aid Certifications and a valid Driver's License are requirements for this position. Licenses suspended or revoked for any reason, work permits (business purpose/Employment/education only licenses) and some types of restricted licenses
. Licenses that have Corrective Lenses Restriction are acceptable.
Senior Juvenile Probation Officers may be required to perform shift work, due to 24-hour facility operations depending on position location. Applicants must be willing to work a flex schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. Extended hours and on-call duties may also be required.
Successful completion of Background and Drug Screening are conditions of employment.
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and one year of experience working with youth.

985.66 Florida Statute Requirement:
1. Be at least 19 years of age.
2. Be a high school graduate or its equivalent as determine by the commission.
3. Not have been convicted of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement, or have received a dishonorable discharge from any of the Armed Forces of the United States. Any person, who after September 30, 1999, pleads guilty or nolo contendere to or is found guilty of any felony or a misdemeanor involving perjury or false statement is not eligible for employment, notwithstanding suspension of sentence or withholding of adjudication. Notwithstanding this subparagraph, any person who pled nolo contendere to a misdemeanor involving a false statement before October 1, 1999, and who has had such record of that plea sealed or expunged is not ineligible for employment for that reason.
4. Abide by all provisions of s. 985.644 (1), regarding fingerprinting and background investigations and other screening requirements for personnel.
5. Execute and submit to the department an affidavit-of-application form, adopted by the department, attesting to his or her compliance with subparagraphs 1-4. The affidavit must be executed under oath and constitutes an official statement under s. 837.06.
The affidavit constitutes a misdemeanor of the second degree. The employing agency shall retain the affidavit.

Counsels juvenile offender and refers juvenile offender to social resources of community for assistance.
Provides guidance to juvenile offenders/families, such as development of vocational and educational plans and available social services.
Formulates rehabilitation plan for each assigned juvenile offender.
Interviews juvenile offender/families, to assist and determine individual problems, needs, interests, and attitude.
Consults with attorneys, judges, and institution personnel (if applicable), to evaluate social progress.
Conducts follow-up interview with juvenile offender/families to ascertain progress made.
Determines nature and extent of juvenile offender's criminal record and current and prospective social problems.
Reviews and evaluates legal and social history and progress of juvenile offender.
Informs juvenile offender/families of requirements of conditional release, such as office visits, restitution payments, or educational and employment stipulations.
Confers with juvenile offender's family to identify needs and problems, and to ensure that family and business are attended to.
Makes recommendations concerning conditional release or institutionalization of juvenile offender.
Assists juvenile offender/families with matters concerning detainers, sentences in other jurisdictions, writs, and applications for social assistance.
Develops and prepares informational packets of social agencies and assistance
organizations and programs, for juvenile offender/families.
Prepares and maintains case folder for each assigned juvenile offender.
Conducts pre-hearing or pre-sentencing investigations and testifies in court.
