If so, the City of Gainesville’s Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is currently seeking a Temporary Site Supervisor to work in the Recreation Division. This position is temporary work performing professional work in the leadership of recreation activities for youth ranging in the ages of 6 to 18.
To be considered for this position you must have completed two (2) years of college in recreation or a related field; Or have an equivalent combination of education and experience. At the very least should have completed high school and have 2 years of experience with kids, that is verifiable.
The ideal candidate will have :
- knowledge of planning and organizing activities for children;
- a working knowledge of child supervision;
- the ability to evaluate behavioral patterns;
- familiarity with the use and care of playground equipment; and
- effective verbal and written communication skills
- have a current certification in First Aid/CPR/AED prior to June 9, 2014;
- have a valid Driver’s License and have a clean driving record; and
All candidates chosen to fill openings are required to be drug tested.
- have the ability to satisfactorily pass DCF (Department of Children and Families screening process and security background check.
- be able and available to work some nights
- have reliable transportation
- Candidates will be required to set up equipment and perform custodial work.

Temporary Full Time
Does professional work in the leadership of recreationan activities for youth ranging in ages of 5 to 14. Plans, organizes and implements a variety of recreation activities working under the close supervision of the Site Supervisor. Develops and expands programs to meet specific area needs. Receives specific instructions from the supervisor concerning the overall recreation program. Works closely with school personnel to assure proper use and care of the school facilities.
Creates, administers and implements recreation programs in an assigned area.
Works directly with the Recreation Supervisor.
Supervises all participants in activities.
Determines and stimulates interest and directs a wide variety of recreation activities according to the needs of the neighborhood. Maintains order and discipline.
Issues, receives, and secures recreation equipment.
Inspects facilities and equipment regularly recommending maintenance, replacement, and repair work, as necessary.
Promotes safety through proper use of all apparatus and recreation equipment; and renders routine first aid in case of injury.
Maintains attendance, nutrition records and other records essential to efficient operation of the program.
Keeps an updated and interesting bulletin board to announce and promote activities.
Must attend training sessions and regularly scheduled staff meetings.
Sets up equipment as necessary and does minor custodial work as needed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
A working knowledge of leadership technique with the ability to plan, organize, and conduct recreation activities; knowledge of the rules of popular sports and other athletic activities, familiarity with care and use of recreation equipment with a knowledge of first aid, games of simple organization.
Two years of college in recreation or related field or 2 years experience or any combination of education or experience preferred. Knowledge of planning and organizing activities for children. Working knowledge of child supervision and the ability to evaluate behavioral patterns. Familiarity with the use and care of playground equipment. Ability to perform verbal and written communications and reports.
Required to work Monday through Friday and occasionally extra hours in the evenings for staff meetings.
Must have a CPR and First Aid Certification.
