Performs skilled repair and construction work including the laying of cement and asphalt; installs items such as playground equipment, fences and walls; repair and minor mainte¬nance of swimming pool equipment; operates heavy machinery.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Education: Completion of formal or informal education sufficient to possess the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities established for the position.
Experience: Two (2) years of recent full-time experience in repair and construction as a skilled worker or comparable level of performance and responsibility.
SPECIAL LICENSE OR LANGUAGE SKILLS
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License is required. May be required to obtain and maintain a State Fire Extinguisher License. Must qualify and obtain a valid Class A California Driver's License with Standard Insurability Provisions within six (6) months of employment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties of a position in this class include but are not limited to: Repairs and installs such items as playground equipment, gym equipment, fences and walls, gates. bleachers and barricade posts;' may service and maintain fire extinguishers; pours and finishes concrete walks, slabs, steps and other items; resurfaces playgrounds and parking lots; installs and dismantles goal posts for football and soccer; prepares athletic fields and tracks; moves equipment, machinery and furniture; does paving including grading; sandblasts surfaces; cleans and/or maintains weight room equipment/machines and a variety of other items; digs trenches; cores concrete; performs installation, maintenance and minor repair of swimming pool equipment such as ladders, diving boards and hand rails; under supervision, assists in fabrication for the welding shop; maintains tools and equipment; recommends supplies and materials; uses and operates tools and equipment such as tractors, skip loaders, graders, air compressors, jack hammers, concrete saws and coring machines; assists other trades as deemed necessary by the supervisor; keeps records and makes reports; drives District vehicles; performs other related duties as required.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Skills in: Operating construction equipment including tractors, skip loaders, rollers, graders, air compressors, jack hammers, concrete saws and coring machines; uses a surveyor's transit; safely operating a motor vehicle.
Knowledge of: Materials, tools, equipment and methods used in the repair and construction trade; applicable codes and laws relating to the construction trade; safe working practices and procedures.
Abilities to: Perform highly skilled repair and construction work, including heavy physical labor; understand and follow oral and written instructions; plan and organize work; meet deadlines; exercise good judgment; pay attention to detail; establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and others; maintain sensitivity to ethnic, religious, cultural and sexual differences.
