The primary purpose of this position is to provide professional social work services for active duty, retired military members and their families, and other eligible TRICARE beneficiaries.

Clinical and administrative duties focus on psychological assessment, diagnosis, and treatment involving evidence-based interventions, as well as education and prevention activities.

Provides psychosocial assessment and evidence-based treatments for the individual, couples, and/or groups.

Provides Mental Health Flight and Behavioral Health Optimization Program (BHOP) day-call duties.

Serves as a psychological consultant and liaison with military and civilian agencies to promote timely information exchange.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade (GS-09) or equivalent.

Specialized experience must include

professional knowledge of social work practices, and theories to carry full professional responsibility for individual, marital, family and group counseling services involving a wide range of psychosocial and systemic problems.

Federal Time-In-Grade

(TIG) Requirement for General Schedule (GS) Positions:
Applicants must have served at least 52 weeks at the GS-XX [insert appropriate grade level] or higher grade (or equivalent in an alternate pay system) within the Federal Civil Service to be considered for referral.

The purpose of TIG restrictions is to prevent excessively rapid promotions in competitive service GS positions and to protect competitive principles.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:

1.

Professional knowledge of a variety of social services, social work practices, principles, theories, ethical standards, and of evidence based treatments for a full range of psychiatric disorders.

2.

Knowledge of complex helping systems, professions, and organizations; and the multiple uses of such systems, professions, and organizations to deliver services.

Also, knowledge and experience in the organization, management, and administration of prevention and outreach services.

3.

Knowledge of correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and format to accurately prepare and edit written reports according to military requirements.

4.

Skill in conducting clinical interviews to establish the nature and extent of concerns/issues, provide professional assistance to clients; and determine age appropriate referral services/opinions; and in organizing, planning and implementing initiatives.

5.

Ability to apply professional diagnostic skills in the use of the Diagnostic and Statistic Manual of Mental Disorders to individuals and families, and to plan and organize, establish treatment plans, set priorities, and meet suspenses.

6.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing as well as to provide consultation services to medical professionals and military leaders, and to work well with others using a team approach.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE

:

Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

:

1.

A Masters in Social Work from an institution accredited by the Council on Social Work Education is required.

2.

Selective Placement Factor:
Possess a current, unrestricted license to practice clinical social work independently in any one of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands.

3.

Must be privileged for independent practice by the Credentials Committee at the employing Medical Treatment Facility.

4.

A minimum of two (2) years within the past five (5) years in the independent practice of clinical social work is highly desired.

5.

Position requires Basic Life Support (BLS) in accordance with local MDG policies.

6.

Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.

7.

Incumbent may share on-call duty during weeknights and/or weekends on a rotational basis as required consistent with other mental health professionals of the same specialty performing like duties.

8.

This position may be identified as having “regular contact with children,” requiring a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for the position.

9.

Completion of appropriate clinical and administrative duties may involve “after hours” care or work in addition to regular clinic hours.

10.

This is a drug testing designated position.

The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
