Maintain the legal file and integrity of medical records through filing, assembling, and verification of correct information in medical records. Perform audits of medical records to ensure verification of correct patient information. Respond to requests for depositions and subpoenas from courts and attorneys in a timely and accurate manner. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. No patient care assignment.

Accountability:
INFORMATION REQUESTS - Respond to depositions and subpoenas; analyze the request; ensure the correctness of records; copy the medical record, prepare affidavits when needed; provide testimony

FUNDS - Bill, record and process funds received from requestors

DUTIES - Perform duties of Clerk Specialist III as work flow dictates

INFORMATION - Handle rushe information requests; provide fax release of information as needed

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Ensure institutional policies and procedures for administration and maintenance of medical records

CONFIDENTIALITY - Maintain medical record confidentiality and legal requirements

RECORDS - Create and maintain daily records on work performed

QUALITY - develop and implement QSE/CQI activities

CUSTOMER SERVICE - Respond to additional service or special requests in a timely manner; ensure customer issues are appropriately resolved; demonstrate positive customer relations

SUPPLIES - Notify department secretary when supplies are required

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES - Maintain established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality assurance programs

DEVELOPMENT - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops

AUDIT - Develop, oversee and conduct various routine and special audits, research and correct data to maintain integrity of programs

Education Requirements:
Vocational training post-high school in related field

Experience Requirements:
2 years directly related experience

Physical Demands Requirements:
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally (Occasionally: activity or condition exists up to 1/3 of the time) and/or a negligible amount of force frequently (Frequently: activity or condition exists from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time) to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time, but may involve walking or standing for brief periods of time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Licensure/Certification Requirements - Preferred:
Certified Registered Health Information Technician
