Reports to the Assistant Director. Coordinates educational and behavioral programming for secondary level students with developmental disabilities (i.e. autism) enrolled at the Douglass Developmental Disabilities Center. Develops Individualized Educational Plans (IEP) that includes skill assessment, goal planning and program writing. Assists in the development of IEPs that include Functional Behavioral Analysis, development of specialized interventions, and documentation of rationale and procedures needed to achieve change (documentation of efficacy). Implements Individualized Educational/Behavioral Plans that ensures the following services are delivered to the students including Varied Educational/Behavioral Technology, Specialized Motivational Systems, Systematic Application of Technology and documentation of daily/weekly/monthly data and data monitoring (documentation of efficacy). Assists in training, supervising and evaluating classroom assistants, undergraduate fieldwork students, and volunteers as they learn effective teaching strategies with the autistic population. Collaborates weekly with lead instructors, speech therapists, mobility specialist, supervisors on both student centered and school wide curriculum planning/projects. Collaborates with professionals from other departments within the Center for behavioral intervention/research purposes or professional development. Maintains parent-professional contacts by organizing and conducting clinics; attends home visits as necessary per student and PTA meetings throughout the school year as required. Maintains a well-organized classroom by scheduling staff and student activities; material development and maintenance; meet routine responsibilities and represent the school at local/state/national conferences.

Job Requirements
Requires a bachelor’s degree in education with a NJ Teacher Certification (N-8,P-12, including CE/CEAS), and having a Teacher of the Handicapped Certification or Teacher of Students with Disabilities endorsements/CE/CEAS, as outline by the New Jersey Department of Education Office of Licensing and Credentials. In addition, this position requires a NJ Driver’s License, effective communication skills and computer literacy and a minimum of 1-2 years’ experience working with autism, behavioral technology, data management, goal assessment and planning, family programming, and paraprofessional supervision. Effective, proficient oral and written communication skills and experience with MS Office and database. Knowledge of Advanced Behavioral Technology, research, and an understanding of DDDC’s research and mentoring models are desired, and a Master’s degree preferred. Teachers who do not meet DOE requirements, but who are eligible under IDEA flexibility rules, will have a maximum of 2 years to complete requirements as outlined by the NJDOE.

Special Conditions
Selected candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check. In accordance with New Jersey State law, applicants must agree to undergo, and authorize the university to conduct fingerprint, criminal history, and/or child abuse record checks with various law enforcement agencies, including but not limited to the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Identification Division and/or The New Jersey Division of State Police Bureau of Identification. Applicants must also assume any costs incurred by the university associated with the background investigations whether required by statute or not. In accordance with state-mandated requirements, a Manteaux test will be administered to successful applicants to verify the absence of tuberculosis. In addition, the successful applicant, at the cost of the university, will be required to be inoculated against Hepatitis B, unless the successful applicant waives this vaccination in writing.
