Urban Science is a company that is focused on leveraging data and logic to solve real world business problems. Urban Science leverages cutting edge analytics, proprietary software solutions, and years of industry experience to help our clients to create strategies and solutions that make their customers the focal point of their efforts. This position is based in Long Beach, CA and will report within the Information Technology division. The SQL Developer’s primary role is to support the development and maintenance of databases used to warehouse client data and drive Urban Science applications. The SQL Developer will be expected to work in a team environment and deliver designs, scripts, stored procedures and SSIS packages as needed to support the development and maintenance of Urban Science products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop data models for Urban Science databases and implement those models
Create SQL scripts to implement business rules on Urban Science databases
Create stored procedures to support Urban Science applications
Maintain legacy database systems
Create processes to transform data between client systems and existing legacy databases
Create documentation describing the design of Urban Science databases
Adhere to quality control standards for Urban Science and the client.
Plan, organize, develop and deliver client-requested projects and ad hoc requests within in prescribed time schedule.
Manage client databases utilizing Urban Science proprietary software
Measure the performance of SQL scripts and queries and use the results to recommend optimization strategies.
Track, process, analyse, and verify data

Qualifications - Education and Experience:

Strong SQL skills.
Ability to write complex SQL stored procedures.
Ability to optimize queries for maximum performance.
Ability to translate business requirements into data structures and queries.
Ability to create data models.
Proficiency with SQL 2005 and SQL 2008.
Understanding of SQL Trace and ability to evaluate stored procedure performance.
Ability to understand and adapt corporate standards to data and script designs.
Ability to create clear and concise documentation to communicate database design.
Ability to work with development staff in support of application development.
Proficiency in creating and maintaining SSIS packages.
Ability to prioritize competing demands, manage multiple concurrent tasks and adapt to changing priorities
Ability to collaborate with other team members and have dedication to meeting and exceeding their expectations
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Knowledge of relational database fundamentals, including creating and executing queries, creating scripts, importing/exporting data, and manipulating data
Strong commitment to the Urban Science Mission to provide state-of the art solutions to our customers’ problems worldwide, utilizing scientific problem solving tools and computer technology driven by real-world experiences
Oral communication skills necessary to express ideas clearly to individuals and groups, including clients.
Written communication skills necessary to effectively communicate ideas in a clear, concise manner at a level appropriate for the audience
Ability to analyze problems and identify alternative solutions, applying appropriate Urban Science methodology
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Baccalaureate degree in a technical field (engineering, applied math, computer science, applied science, MIS , or other) from an accredited U.S. college or university, or at least 10 years of relevant work experience degree preferred
Microsoft Word, Access and Excel skills required
