Senior SQL Database Manager
The Database Manager's role is to supervise and ensure the efficient operation of the company's databases and equipment. This includes collaborating with the IT staff responsible for monitoring and diagnosing network and hardware problems. The Database Manager will also work closely with the IT executive staff and decision makers in other departments in order to identify, recommend, develop, implement, and support cost-effective technology solutions for all aspects of the organization.
Coordinate production releases and changes postpone or reject the releases if there are scheduling conflicts or technical inconsistencies.
Review any new application that has a database component and reject its implementation if the component does not meet company standards. Enforce company database architectural standards and reject the implementation of any process that does not meet this standard.
Manage DBA operations staff, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation and disciplinary actions.
Lead DBA team operational and strategic planning and projects; Organize and negotiate the allocation of IT resources.
Develop and implement all functional policies and procedures, including database standards, and RDBMS roles.
Provide administrative direction and support to daily activities of DBA team; Conduct feasibility studies and testing; Develop maintenance schedules for systems.
Ensure the efficient utilization of IT Resources – including personnel and equipment – across the organization;
Manage the deployment, monitoring, maintenance, development, upgrade and support of all RDBMS and associated hardware.
Skills and Experience Desired
College degree in computer science, information systems, or computer engineering or equivalent, business experience with 3 – 5 years of managing other DBAs
Certifications in Microsoft Database (MCDBA) Preferred
Experience in designing and architecting database systems
Strong understanding of human resource management principles, practices and procedures
Keen attention to detail with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high pressure environment
Extensive experience working in a team oriented, collaborative environment
Experience with data modeling tools
Ability to present ideas in business-friendly and user-friendly language
Highly self-motivated and directed
Overall database system health and performance.
Documentation of system processes, designs and configuration.
Ensure support for production and deployment of new database features.
Reporting toward projects, risks, accomplishments and issues.
Manage resource availability.
