Senior Statistical Analyst Insurance Background Needed!

This senior-level senior statistical analyst position performs an array of regression, segmentation, clustering, and other advanced statistical analysis techniques to address internal and external customer needs and deliver business intelligence. This position integrates experience, theory, and applied business statistics to understand the client’s business concerns and apply them to design, develop, and implement complex analytical solutions across the entire customer life cycle for all industries TransUnion serves. Provides technical product support for new and existing products and services developed by TransUnion. May mentor one or more statisticians and/or administrative support staff members to ensure they are provided effective training and guidance.

Utilizes various advanced statistical modeling techniques such as regression, CHAID, clustering neural network and other advanced statistical methods. Consults with customers to design and conduct analyses. Independently conducts analysis that leads to the creation of robust models within time and cost constraints. Provides easy to understand and action oriented analytic reports and presentations for customers. Demonstrates to internal and external customers how analysis can be implemented to maximize business strategies including cost benefit analyses. Explores new statistical analysis and related research techniques and software and presents analysis findings to peers and other groups within TransUnion. Manages the integration of data analysis with statistical models to make sound strategic recommendations. Responsible for providing technical sales support, which may include providing strategic consulting and needs assessment services to internal and external customers. Account for the full project cycle of analytical and modeling projects for customers – developing detailed modeling and analysis requirements, performing advanced statistical techniques, mentoring and coordinating analytical resources, and ensuring that deliverables are in accordance with client expectation and business need.

Duties & Responsibilities for the Senior Statistical Analyst

Leads project design, sample design, and business review meetings with internal and external clients deriving requirements and deliverables for addressing clients’ needs. Conducts and/or manages projects related to the statistical analysis of data that will address the various phases of the account life cycle. Prepares detailed documentation specifications such as analysis and research results for internal and external distribution/publication. Creates and/or follows detailed project plans to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget. Prepares formal client reports and presents analytical results. Creates clear and easy to understand reports according to customer needs and/or specifications.

Assists in proposal development by transforming client or prospective client requirements into consultative solutions that demonstrate value added services.

Identifies, develops, and evaluates statistical models/methods to analyze data and provides business recommendations to clients with action plans. Tests and assesses new statistical analysis methods and software for continual improvement of business and information solutions.

Provides high quality ongoing customer and sales support; uncovering opportunities, answering questions, resolving problems, consulting with internal and external customers, and closing sales.

Helps with the implementation of generic and custom decision supports systems into Trans Union’s credit reporting system.

Understands industry trends and the business at the level needed to proactively identify areas of business opportunities and analytical needs of customers. Assures compliance of regulatory and privacy issues during implementation of modeling and analysis projects.

Prepares and presents sales training programs for sales associates and new associates. Makes presentations at speaking engagements, internal workshops and sales consulting in a particular area of business or statistical expertise.

May mentor one or more statisticians and/or administrative support staff members to ensure they are provided effective training and guidance.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications for the Senior Statistical Analyst

This job requires a Master’s degree in Statistics or other related field such as mathematics, business, finance, economics, or equivalent, along with 4 or more years of relevant work experience. Strong understanding of statistical tools and their application to business, as well as principles of cost/benefit analysis, risk management, marketing and operations.

Must have demonstrated experience using a PC and the applicable software programs necessary to complete the work of the position. Must know SAS in a mainframe and/or PC environment. Knowledge of SPSS, data mining tools such as KnowledgeSeeker, Enterprise Miner, etc., as well as strategy development, using tools such as credit scoring systems (new accounts, behavioral, collection and recovery likelihood, etc.), CHAID and Triad/Probe/Strategyware/Capstone-type of software is strongly desired.

Technical aptitude with strong logical, problem solving, and decision-making skills. Proficiency in performing multiple tasks and dealing with changing deadline requirements required. Must have good verbal and written communication skills; strong listening and teamwork skills; and effective presentation and sales skills are also required. Must be focused, flexible, and organized. Occasional travel is required.
