POSITION SUMMARY
Under general guidance assumes a lead role in the design, administration and maintenance of employee compensation programs that will attract, retain and reward world class individuals to Bon Secours Health System. For staff development purposes provides mentoring, project guidance and training for Compensation Analysts and Coordinators. May have direct supervisory responsibility for Compensation Staff, including performance evaluation, hiring recommendations and disciplinary actions.
Leads teams in the design, recommendation and implementation of changes and modifications to existing pay practices to ensure market competitiveness, internal equity, and consistency. Works closely with Local System Human Resources Business Partners on compensation related matters to provide innovative and timely solutions to business needs. May attend and present to Business Partner leadership meetings on an as needed basis. Interprets compensation policies, procedures and related labor laws and regulations to ensure system wide compliance. Conducts a variety of organizational compensation services, including market analysis, equity studies, and job evaluation. Supports and Leads the annual merit increase process with distribution analysis, increases matrixes development and cost analysis. Analyzes results, makes recommendations, and determines fiscal impact and prepares formal recommendations.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A representative summary of tasks to be performed by the incumbent is provided below. The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this description. The duties and responsibilities of the position are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the mission, values and operating principles of Bon Secours, and in-line with the organization’s Code of Conduct.
1. For staff development purposes provides mentoring, project guidance and training for Compensation Analysts and Coordinators. May have direct supervisory responsibility for Compensation Staff, including performance evaluation, hiring recommendations and disciplinary actions.
2. Prepares and presents Compensation recommendations to Business Partner Leadership groups. May attend Business Partner Leadership team meetings as Compensation support.
3. Leads teams in the design, recommendation and implementation of changes and modifications to existing pay practices to ensure market competitiveness, internal equity, and consistency. Develops and revises compensation related policies and procedures for review and approval.
4. Works with recruiters and Business Partners on applicant salary issues.
5. Provides guidance to Local System Human Resources Business Partners on compensation related matters. Interprets compensation policies, procedures and related labor laws and regulations under the guidance of the System Compensation Manager. Educates and trains HR Business partners on compensation related practices, laws and regulations.
6. Conducts a variety of organizational compensation services, including market analysis, equity studies, and job evaluation. Analyzes results, makes recommendations, and determines fiscal impact and prepares formal recommendations.
7. Develops updates and reviews position descriptions. Evaluates position and recommends appropriate grade and salary ranges. Maintains automated files for all position descriptions as positions are created or changed.
8. Analyzes survey results, makes recommendations, and determines fiscal impact.
9. Leads/supports the annual merit increase process with distribution analysis, increase matrixes development and cost analysis.
10. Serves as a lead member of the System Compensation Team to design and implement compensation programs that will attract, retain and reward world class employees.
11. Prepares a variety of Human Resources reports, as requested, using an Access Database, Excel or the payroll system.
12. Researches and investigates new programs in compensation for potential business solutions and determines cost implications. Makes recommendations for plan revisions/upgrades and submits formal proposals.
13. Develops marketing and communication strategies to communicate changes to Compensation programs, policies and procedures on an on-going basis.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Will participate on various project teams as assigned.
2. Work may require some travel to local systems in support of projects and to provide Business Partner support
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The incumbent must be flexible, highly collaborative and consistently work to fill gaps and avoid overlaps in local system activities. A key requirement for the incumbent is to continuously listen, react and suggest ways to complement or assist the work of others. The ideal manifestation of the role is when all CIS involved parties seek out the incumbent as an expert resource and thought partner, which will ensure that the work is fluid and relevant to current issues.
Required Qualifications
1. Work requires a professional level of knowledge generally acquired through completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources Administration or closely related field.
2. Work requires knowledge of compensation theory and practice, job evaluation methodologies, FLSA and regulations related to Compensation acquired through at least 3-5 years of work experience in a Human Resources compensation position.
3. Previous work experience using a personal computer and various software packages (e.g. Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.) is required.
4. Work requires extensive experience developing compensation policies, procedures and pay practices; reviewing salary surveys; writing position descriptions; and recommending salary changes and pay ranges.
5. CCP and Masters Degree are preferred, as well as PHR and SPHR.
6. Must have experience manipulating Excel data and formulas.
