Job Purpose: The STS (Society for Thoracic Surgery) Registry Coordinator is responsible for directing and coordinating all aspects of the STS data abstracting and reporting functions including data collection, data submission, regular reporting issues and analysis pertaining to the procedural and outcomes data required. Also responsible for facilitating the coordination with facility physicians, staff and administrative personnel on issues pertaining to the collection or reporting of STS data. Responsible for working in conjunction with Information Systems, physician experts and other staff to oversee and coordinate the development and implementation of the registry. The STS Registry Coordinator will, through understanding of the tool, respond to all requests for information to include: clinical interpretations of data element definitions and benchmark and/or comparative report interpretations. The coordinator will be responsible for developing and maintaining general policies and procedures for data abstraction and submission to the STS organization.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or other related field preferred.

Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred)

Other appropriate clinical/healthcare licensure and/or certification

RN required with critical care or OR experience preferred

Work Experience: Minimum of three (3) years appropriate healthcare experience and two (2) years quality experience

Job Roles



Collect and input data into registry with follow up as necessary with physician, departments and staff to follow up with questions or interpretation of documentation or records including educating staff and physicians of the required information.

Coordinate and maintain aggregation and integrity of data being submitted to STS. To include timeliness of data integration and accuracy of the data sources, mapping and interface.

Cross training and quality checks of data with other analysts in the department to assure accuracy and continuation of work with other coordinators.

Participate in hospital committees to document and track changes in STS data and feedback and discussions. Actively prompting follow up and deadlines for goals including results on quality and financial impacts, reporting and agendas.

Responsible for establishing and maintaining operating practices and quality of services rendered by department with regard to system that meet the requirements and guidelines as set forth by various licensing, the accrediting and regulatory agencies. Participate in education of others in the organization on performance improvement standards and expectations. (e.g. The Joint Commission, Conditions of Participation, etc. )

Supports the organization and department through continuing education.

Training for any additional users of STS tool. Maintaining manual with standard operation procedures and instructions.

Other duties as assigned.
