This is a professional position providing drug and alcohol abuse counseling to Behavioral Health clients. Provides aftercare services to clients and family members as indicated by the treatment plan or as assigned. Performs special projects such as program evaluation, consultation, program development or others. Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent and three years of experience in substance abuse treatment field; or Bachelor of Arts degree from an accredited college or university and one year of relevant experience; or Masters Degree in appropriate field required. Knowledge of alcoholism and drug addiction, substance abuse treatment techniques, and twelve-step recovery programs such as Alcoholics Anonymous required. Recovering counselors must be drug and alcohol-free a minimum of two years prior to employment. At least six months experience interviewing, screening and assessing abuse clients required. Experience in objective testing (e.g., SASSI, AUP) related to substance abuse issues as well as training and/or education in substance abuse issues required. Experience developing and implementing educational / preventative outreach programs strongly preferred. Must be either a Certified Alcohol Counselor (CAC), Certified Drug Counselor (CDC), Licensed Substance Abuse Associate (LSAA), or Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor (LADAC). Must have certification/licensure by date of hire and maintain current throughout employment. Have or be able to obtain First Aid and BLS/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire. This position requires successful completion of criminal records check.
