SURGICAL TECH 2 CERTIFIED
Location: Methodist Dallas Medical Center
Department: Surgery & Recovery
Job Purpose: Understand the procedure being preformed and assures all equipment, instrumentation and supplies are available for the case. Anticipate the needs of the surgeon. Handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. Participates in setting up and turning over the operating room for the cases. Can scrub any surgical specialty. Scrubs neuro and/or cardio- thoracic open heart, and takes heart calls. Is a mentor and trainer for Scrub Techs.
Graduate of Surgical Technologist program, military trained, or AD in Surgical Technology preferred.
High School Diploma and/or GED equivalent
Licenses and/or Certifications (Required and Preferred)
Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred
Related Work Experience and Other Skills
Ability to be trained to perform computer functions.
Ability to make fast and accurate judgments when necessary
Able to develop and maintain good working relationships with all levels of staff, patients and family members
Able to professionally and effectively communicate (orally and in writing).
Able to read, write and speak English
Able to work in a fast paced, hectic environment handling stress inorder to meet deadlines.
Exposure to hazards from blood born pathogens, needles, blades, and instruments, but little chance of injury when safety precautions are followed.
Work Experience: 5 years or more prior experience in all specialties with emphasis in advanced neuro procedures and /or cardio-thoracic/open heart surgeries.
