We are currently seeking a Safety Director to join the team as a member of our growing Portland Safety division.

Established in 1960, McKinstry is a full-service design, build, operate and maintain (DBOM) firm with over 1,600 employees. This person will be responsible for:
Safety Implementation *
  • Leads in the development and implementation of required or desired changes of the corporate safety program. Helps identify the priority for implementing new initiatives. *
  • Works with the Corporate Safety Director to develop and manage the annual Safety Department Goal plan. *
  • Responsible for delivering the corporate Safety program components to the assigned regional market. Works with the management team in assigned region to insure the management team understands their role in advancing the Corporate Safety culture. *
  • Works with the Executive team to facilitate the continuous improvement of the Corporate Safety Program. *
  • Oversees the daily workload, career development and annual goal planning of all Safety staff positions in the assigned region. *
  • Reviews and addresses the hazardous working conditions and unsafe employee practices through staff assignments, project visits, safety plans and safety training. *
  • Reinforces safety policies in a manner that promotes cooperation and builds the proper culture. *
  • Responsible for timely incident investigations/valid root causation reports and lessons learned documentation for all medical level incidents and above in the assigned region. *
  • Responsible for providing regular Safety audit feedback to all departments in the assigned region as well as developing action plans to correct all Safety deficiencies identified. *
  • Takes the lead on identifying and acknowledging Safety champions to enhance Corporate Safety Culture. *
  • Responsible for documenting training records and assuring all Safety documentation is properly recorded for the assigned region. *
  • Responsible for oversight of regional Safety meetings, including the regional Safety committee, monthly awareness training, departmental Safety meeting and all pre-construction start up meetings.
Administrative *
  • Researches new regulations and developments in the field of Health and Safety and recommend changes in the company"s program. *
  • Reviews documentation to insure all required onsite records and reports are complete, accurate and submitted per established procedures. *
  • Coordinates with insurance carrier"s claims representatives on GL loss claims. *
  • Maintains working knowledge of Open Workers Comp claims for the assigned region. *
  • Insures all new hires in assigned region receive New Hire Safety Orientation.

Qualified candidates will possess the following: *
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Visio required; working knowledge of SharePoint preferred. *
  • Understand that 'Safety is an important element of marketing' *
  • Clear understanding of McKinstry Co. mission and values. *
  • Understanding of applicable federal, state, local and company regulations. *
  • Ability to recognize onsite risk factors and take appropriate action with firmness and tact. *
  • Seven (7) years general construction experience with emphasis on construction and/or industrial safety required. *
  • Bachelor"s degree in Safety or related field preferred. *
  • Experience in management of a Safety team or related management experience required. *
  • Certified First Aid/CPR trainer status preferred.

  • Ability and willingness to travel regionally. *
  • Physical ability to navigate jobsites in uneven terrain. *
  • Provide personal transportation for meetings and job visits away from the office; reimbursed.
