Position Summary

Will perform all daily safety functions appropriate for a Safety Manager to assist in developing, implementing, administering, and maintain the environmental, health and safety (EHS) program, policies and procedures with the goals of minimizing the frequency and severity of accidents and injuries and ensuring regulatory compliance.

Essential Job Functions

• Responsible for implementing programs promoting safe working conditions within the company providing assistance to all employees to include any necessary follow up on all safety policies, procedures, documentation and support.

• Inspect facilities to ensure compliance with WISHA, DOE, ORCAA, and other agency requirements, and provide recommendations to facility managers and supervisor on any and all corrective or preventative measures necessary.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations to include preparation, maintaining, and updating of environmental policy and procedure manuals.

• Participates in DOE, ORCAA, WISHA, and other outside agency inspections.

• Orient all new hires to safety department policies, procedures and regulations pertaining to employee safety. This includes issuing appropriate safety equipment. Documentation is required.

• Manage all claims of work-related accidents. Required to supervise confidential investigations and maintain confidentiality in all employee and company matters. Makes recommendations of preventative or corrective actions.

• Interface with insurance carriers to understand and implement policy requirements. Complete appropriate paperwork as required. Interface with carrier loss control managers to identify areas of consideration, identify potential solutions, evaluate solution cost and present recommendation to supervisor for review and approval.

• Plans and administers training programs on the prevention of accidents, fires and other safety issues.

• Accomplishes monthly and annual reports in support of DOE, ORCAA, and WISHA requirements.

• Performs misc. related duties as assigned or requested to include travel to other locations, seminars, or workshops as necessary for job performance.

Additional Job Functions

• Will be expected to work flexible hours as needed to meet departmental needs

• May be required to participate in training classes provided by Employer or insurance carrier of Employer.

Requirements

• Two years safety experience with WISHA/OSHA & environmental compliance, ergonomics, safety training, and worker’s compensation showing a high level of ability, familiarity, and experience gained from working directly in and or with all areas of duties listed in Job Description.

• Knowledge of loss control management.

• Responsive to deadlines with the ability to effectively manage emergencies.

• Must have a valid Washington State Driver’s License. A good driving record is required.

• Must have good reading, math, writing and computer skills adequate to perform all duties outlined in Job Description.

Other Preferred Skills/Abilities

• Associates Degree/Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and experience in industrial hygiene, safety management, environmental science, basic or applied science or related field.

• Knowledge of industrial hygiene, safety compliance, wastewater, air pollution and hazardous waste regulations (local, state, and federal). Related experience in all aspects of environmental permits, compliance and pollution prevention is expected. Requires thorough knowledge of federal and state environmental and safety regulations and standards (e.g. OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, DOT, RCRA, etc)

• Certification preferred but not required.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

• All duties will require frequent walking, standing, sitting, and the fine manipulation of hands with occasional bending, twisting, pushing and pulling. Safety supplies and other related materials or items that may need to be lifted and or carried may weigh up to 50 pounds.

• Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are required for daily interaction with employees, co-workers, executive managers, and all other business contacts.

• Maintains a professional, positive attitude while working cooperatively and jointly with others.

• Understands, assures and maintains confidentially as appropriate with all associated safety communication, documents and related issues.

• Demonstrates a continuous effort to improve operations, decrease information and documentation turnaround times, and streamline work processes.

• Able to, organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks at one time.

• Able to follow verbal and written directions and asking questions if not understanding.

• Maintain an excellent attendance record.

• Follow all company policies and procedures in the Employee Handbook and safety rules.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an indoor, climate-controlled environment for the most part. Noise levels are low to moderate with some chemical odors present.

Working Hours

This is a full-time, overtime exempt position. Incumbent will be required to work additional hours, including weekends to meet the needs of the business. Travel may be required.
