Reporting to the Director of Safety & Loss Prevention, this incumbent will continue to help implement and track progress of the Safety change management initiative begun in 2011 and will lead the implementation of a new Loss Prevention & Site Security program geared toward bringing our Safety & Site Security to World Class levels.

We’re looking for an experienced Safety leader to provide oversight and guidance for the Safety and Loss Prevention programs across all Manufacturing & Distribution sites while ensuring compliance with all applicable OSHA, local, state, federal, and labor laws. Trend analysis (finding common deficiencies, leading indicators, root cause) will play a large part in the Manager’s ability to help G&D be proactive and implement corrective action for a safer and more secure work environment.

Safety & Loss Prevention Scope :
Manufacturing : Heavy machinery (from simple sub-assembly to complex builds of large equipment)

Distribution : Fast-paced distribution (forklifts, kitting, high racking, dense/high-traffic warehouses)

Locations : Facilities / Business Units range from (25-350) employees (150-500k square feet) running multiple shifts and some weekends. Operations consist of company-owned and customer-owned sites located mainly across Illinois, the Southeast, and Indiana (approx. 15 sites)

Safety & Loss Prevention Team :
There are 2 other peers reporting to the Director (Transportation Safety Manager and Claims Manager) and 7 direct (3 indirect) reports for this role (site specialists and trainers). This team has been working diligently to continue rolling out the comprehensive Safety change initiative program. The team manager visits these team members’ sites several times weekly to ensure all Safety & Site Security needs are addressed.

SELECT RESPONISIBILITIES:
Lead continuation of Safety Program Change Initiative directly and through Site Safety Specialists

Lead implementation of new Loss Prevention & Site Security program in 2013

Help develop, implement, and monitor Safety & Site Security programs, policies, and procedures that conform to state and federal codes and regulations to ensure a safe and healthy workplace

Through Site Safety Specialists, direct implementation of Safety & Site Security initiatives and programs, development of training programs, and conduct site audits to evaluate compliance

Reduce employee accident frequency and severity rates and maintain below national industry averages; continue to develop the internal Forklift Training Program to a World Class level

Maintain a safe working environment by pro-actively identifying and anticipating Safety concerns, escalating serious risks and deficiencies to senior management

Maintain and distribute OSHA recordkeeping and ensure compliance with all safety and health requirements; ensure all state and federal recordkeeping and reporting requirements are met

Drive teams to meet relevant performance metrics; produce internal Safety reports (ongoing goals, leading indicators, program milestones, etc.) and track data in Excel and IndustrySafe

Ensure established disciplinary guidelines and any required subsequent training is followed

Assist with claims reviews and incident investigations as needed

Assist with case management and loss prevention initiatives as assigned by Director

Create and disseminate Safety communications; lead weekly report outs and site visits

Maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers

Drive accountability for performance to subordinates through Leadership by Example

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field

5-10+ years of Manufacturing and/or Distribution/Warehousing Safety experience

Must be a subject matter expert in Safety best practices within this industry

Thorough knowledge of OSHA safety standard concepts, practices, and procedures

Familiarity with EPA regulations (paint booths, diesel fuel storage, etc.)

Track record of success managing people, projects, and/or programs

Track record of success solving a variety of Safety & Security issues with speed and compliance

Ability to develop training programs and present training to large groups

Excellent verbal and written communication skills; will present formally to clients

Ability to produce advanced reports with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word

Highly analytical : able to assess and identify appropriate alternative courses of action where problems are highly unusual and/or complex

Adaptable : knows how to balance needs of risk management with meeting operational objectives

Strong interpersonal and persuasive skills : influences top managers and operations personnel

Attention to detail : knows how to mitigate risk by looking at both the big picture and the details

Adept : able to perform a variety of complex tasks and manage multiple priorities

Preferred

Relevant certification (CSM) and/or Master’s Degree

3PL or Services experience (i.e. operating within a client site)

Track record of success implementing a behavior-based Safety program

Experience managing a Safety & Site Security program across multiple states

Experience in a World Class environment serving a demanding customer

Working knowledge of Loss Prevention and/or Site Security best practices

Experience with IndustrySafe software
