Formed by the merger of Arden Hill Hospital and Horton Medical Center, Orange Regional is licensed for 383 beds and employs over 2,500 healthcare professionals including over 600 doctors. Orange Regional Medical Center has consolidated two existing campuses onto a single site in Middletown, New York. This completed facility is the first new freestanding hospital built in the State of New York since 1989 and is the largest medical center between the Tappan Zee Bridge and Albany.
In cooperation with the Safety & Physical Environment Committee, the Safety Manager directs an on-going organizational process to collect information about deficiencies and opportunities for improvement in the Environment of Care (EOC) and Life Safety (LS) programs. Works with appropriate staff to implement recommendations and monitor effectiveness. The Safety Manager has the authority to take immediate action to intervene should a hazardous condition occur that could result in personnel injury to persons or damage to Medical Center equipment or facilities. The Safety Manager acts as the Fire Marshall. The Safety Manager chairs the organization’s Safety Committee, has frequent contact with all departments, medical staff, and other
Campus: organizations, visitors, outside vendors, contractors, and local public officials. Is required to be an active member of the Medical Center Emergency Management team, with HEOC role as Safety Officer. Continuously inspects and analyzes significant medical, industrial and construction hazards for buildings (Medical Center, Pavilion and off-site medical office buildings) and grounds.
Education / Experience: Four year college degree in Industrial Health, Safety, Biology, or Engineering, with a minimum of five years’ experience in a Medical Center or healthcare industry, or suitable combination of education and experience. Formal education or subspecialty certifications in hospital safety and environmental functions (i.e. Certified Health Safety Professional - CHSP) preferred. Safety Manager will remain current in life safety codes, JC, NYS DOH Part 405 and OSHA standards. Safety Manager will have fluent computer capabilities in MS Office, Excel and Power Point to track statistical Performance improvement data for accident and other safety trends, utilizing graphing for presentations.
OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety and Health Training Program. Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) - preferred Physical Requirements: Walks or sits most of day. May be called upon to perform subordinate responsibilities in emergency situations requiring engineering/maintenance requirements. May be required to lift heavy objects. May be required to wear a respirator. Working Conditions: Safety Manager may be subject to adverse working conditions related to the plant function matters. Such conditions can include hazardous materials, waste disposal, and equipment maintenance.
