Responsibilities and/or Key Result Areas
Provides strategic direction and leadership for the organizations Safety and Public Safety programs and initiatives. Responsible for the utility-wide Safety and Public Safety programs including the safe and effective use of gas and electricity by employees, customers and the general public. Ensures high performance, best practices and continuous improvement permeate the policies, procedures, that align with corporate strategies. Is responsible for ensuring compliance with local, Federal and State safety and public safety regulations and requirements and ensures the company is aware of and understands the regulations. Maintains positive working relationships with industry, state and regulatory service agencies. Coordinates the Safety and Public Safety staff activities for the company. Removes roadblocks to strive for an accident and injury free work place. Provides leadership to evaluate and promote positive change in the utility safety culture to improve safety and public safety performance.
Bachelor's degree in business, communications, or safety related field preferred. Requires eight years of experience with leadership responsibilities and a broad exposure to safety regulations, policies, programs and administration and public safety knowledge or experience. A clear understanding of utility operations and two years of safety related experience.
Knowledge of OSHA, WISHA, DOT and other regulatory requirements. Working knowledge of gas transmission, storage and regulation preferred. Must have the skills and ability to align the utility leadership with safety performance strategies and tactics. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to influence and lead behavioral change. Strong interpersonal, communication & organizational skills a must. Understanding of best practices in safety and public safety, damage prevention, emergency preparedness and response services preferred. Advanced MS Office computer skills. Other combinations of education and/or experience may be considered.
