The Safety Manager provides professional knowledge and expertise in the administration and support of the division’s safety programs. This position is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of safety programs to assure compliance with regulatory agency guidelines and the company’s policies.

Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • E nsure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local legislation and codes governing safety.
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical and work hazards.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures.
  • Report or review findings from accident investigations and facilities inspections.
  • Train supervisors and employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents. Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Review employee safety programs to determine their adequacy.
  • Interfaces with regulatory agencies, committee members and institutional
    staff to formulate corrective actions.
  • Develop and implement accident investigation, data analysis, and recurrence prevention programs and procedures.
  • Conduct on-site reviews and audits of operations and facilities.
  • Direct industrial hygiene, occupational and general safety programs to ensure a safe environment and comply with safety standards.
  • Respond and provide assistance to all emergency situations.
  • Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams, so that emergency responses can be facilitated .
  • Evaluate adequacy of actions taken to correct health inspection violations.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Keep accurate records for OSHA compliance

Candidates should have a four year degree or an equivalent in experience, a minimum of five years of safety experience in a manufacturing environment, and complete knowledge of all federal, state, and local regulations regarding safety.

Candidates should also have proficiency in leading teams, developing and leading safety training, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and be a "hands on" manager with a high level of judgement skills.
