Nature and Scope of Position
The Safety/Training Manager will ensure the successful training and retraining of all bus Operators at his or her location. Under the general direction of the Assistant General Manager, the Safety/Training Manager performs classroom instruction and behind the wheel training. In addition, the manager will schedule and conduct safety meetings, conduct ride checks, observe and review workplace safety, investigate accidents, and promote a safety conscious environment using the principles set forth in First Transit's CORE Policies, Procedures and Guidelines for safety. This position will also be responsible for developing and facilitating a variety of skills development training programs for hourly employees.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Safety Manager must be able to:
Effectively perform classroom instruction and behind the wheel training for new hires and operator retraining as required.
Schedule and facilitate safety meetings
Monitor CDL and DOT medical card, and other certification expiration dates and notify drivers to ensure timely renewal of same.
Conduct on-the-road observation and evaluation of drivers.
Perform accident/incident investigations.
Pass all requirements to be qualified as a driver at the location.
Obtain required CDL for the vehicles at the location, maintain that license, and at times drive in service.
Obtain and maintain First Transit Instructor Certification.
Coach and counsel employees on safety related concerns.
Ensure periodic certification reviews are performed, documented and appropriate action is taken as required.
Review employee files to ensure documentation meets company and contract requirements.
Assist in the selection process for new bus operators
Complete additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


The Safety/Training Manager must:
Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
Have at least 2 years of supervisory and training experience.
Be computer literate and have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point.
Be able to effectively prioritize tasks and to manage time effectively.
Be able to effectively and appropriately interact with all levels of employees, drivers, management, client representatives, and the general public.
Have knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Company rules and regulations.
Have knowledge of applicable rules and regulations as applicable to Operating in the Airport Security Environment
Hold and maintain First Transit Instructor Certification and TSI.
Obtain and maintain an Airport Security ID Badge.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

The Safety/Training Manager must be able to:
Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing, in the English language.
Work extended hours on a regular basis.
Work on Saturdays / Sundays when necessary.
Demonstrate regular and consistent attendance and punctuality.
Board vehicles in order to inspect vehicle condition.
Assimilate information quickly and accurately.
Prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.
Work in various environments including office, transit facility, field work, maintenance facility and transit vehicles.

Essential Job Functions

Use of full ranges of hearing, speech, and vision.
Use of fingers (manual dexterity) handling paperwork.
Stoop, crouch, squat, or kneel when performing inspections of any type.
Bend at the knee, hip, waist when performing duties.
Stand while performing inspections or platform training.
Be subject to wet, cold, or hot environmental conditions.
Write reports in a coherent, legible manner.
