The Safety Manager is responsible for the promotion of exceptionally safe teamwork with the operations teams and associates, this includes the transportation department. This person investigates and analyzes new/potential safety issues and offers corrective and preventative action measures. He or she must promote enhanced safety performance and provide safety training by offering coaching, mentoring and training for all operational employees. This person will interact with local, state and federal levels as well as divisional, corporate and regulatory groups. Help reduce the risk of occupational illness, industrial injury and property damage
This person shall provide leadership and direction on safety, compliance and the protection of associates, the facility, transportation department and the company. Maintain and follow up on the execution of company safety programs and solicit suggestions and ideas to make the distribution center a safe environment.
This person shall possess a keen understanding of the safety industry and laws and must consult with management to address compliance issues.
Essential Job Functions:
Serve as a contact person regarding all aspects of Safety Training, Record Keeping, OSHA Compliance and management.
Oversee the Behavior Risk Improvement process to ensure core teams are meeting regularly, completing and tracking observations, setting goals, and celebrating, and leaders are supporting the process.
Investigation of accidents and injuries to determine the Root Cause.
Responsible for reviewing all injury reports and investigations for accuracy and completeness.
Promote safety awareness through Safety Focus Events, recognition, and training programs.
Participate in Facility Safety Audits.
Safety Committee representative and advisor.
Ensure that building and equipment safety inspections are conducted and documented.
Schedule associate annual training and retraining and recommend disciplinary action as needed.
Responsible for accurate records of all safety training and recertification’s.
Conduct periodic supervisor training sessions.
Track safety metrics identifying trends.
Review FTE and Injury totals weekly.
Responsible for monthly audit of the OSHA 300 log and resolution of errors with claims administrators.
Strong commitment for safety in a production oriented environment.
Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Support operations as necessary.
Minimum Position Qualifications:
3 year supervisory experience.
High school education or general education degree (GED).
Proven active participation in location safety program.
Good administrative skills.
Communicate effectively in both oral and written form.
Flexible to work any hours (including swing and grave shifts) or days (including weekends).
On call 24/7.
May be required to complete skills and ability testing.
Desired Previous Job Experience
Certified in First Aid and CPR or able to be certified within first 6 month in the position.
Degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Behavioral Sciences or 3 years equivalent experience related field preferred.
Good administrative skills, proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint programs.
10 and 30 Hour OSHA course certification or ability to complete the certification within the first year in the position.
