Administer fleet safety program in Division 14. Evaluate heavy truck driver applicants including processing and interpreting drive record checks. Coordinate certifications of heavy truck drivers. Conduct safety related training, including new employees safety orientation, fleet safety, forklift operator, traffic control, flagger, first aid , and other training as directed by division engineer. Maintain equipment accident and personal injury statistics. Assist supervisors in conducting monthly unit safety meetings, and conduct safety audits. Coordinate safety audiometric testing. Assist division in complying with motor vehicle laws and safety and health regulations and workers compensation case management. Perform related duties as assigned. Note: Must have the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver's License within 30 days of employment. As a condition of employment release forms ALCDRG-01, 06 and 07 must be signed allowing NC dot to check with previous employers for the past tow years about Controlled Substances and Alcohol Testing.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies:
Possess working knowledge of State, Federal, and OSHA Safety and Health standards as applicable to DOT. Considerable knowledge of NC DMV Laws (including CDL), Workers' Compensation Laws and safe work habits. Ability to communicate effectively (verbal/Written) with medical community; to develop, coordinate and present training programs on a variety of safety topics; work independently with minimal supervision, manage and maintain multiple projects and assignments, mount /dismount equipment vehicle inspections, accident investigations and road testing; over night travel required. Operate computer with Windows based programs for Word Processing, Databases and Spreadsheets. Safety Toe Shoe are required.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in safety management, occupational safety, industrial technology or one of the physical sciences and a minimum of one year progressive occupational safety and health experience; or an equivalent combination of training and directly related experience.
