This is a working level job in which incumbent independently performs a full range of complex and hazardous OSHA regulated inspections. Using expert knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations, policies and procedures, incumbent establishes internal safety policies, evaluates compliance, recommends corrective action and assess effectiveness of safety and health programs. Incumbent develops accident prevention programs and policies. Incumbent works closely with Managers and Product Development Engineers to ensure work area's and new products are safe and meet regulatory standards and requirements.
DUTIES
Develops and implements safety programs to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions, using knowledge of industrial processes, mechanics, chemistry, psychology, and industrial health and safety laws. Participates in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) inspections and in any actions/processes that may follow a citation. Investigates, prepares, and forwards reports as required on injuries and fatalities. Investigates workplace accidents and develops course of action to minimize recurrence. Maintains detailed inspection or investigation records, safety reports, medical surveillance and accident records. Analyzes safety, medical surveillance records, accident records and product safety complaints to identify trends and opportunities for improvement. Conducts and/or coordinates OSHA required and safe work procedures training courses. Coordinate plans and specifications for new machinery, equipment, and facilities in an effort to identify and correct potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations. Performs audits of operational areas and reports effectiveness of safety programs. Participates in identifying product safety regulations from applicable governing bodies to ensure product and safety compliance i.e. UL, CE, WEE, Reach, Rohs, Proposition 65, Individual state legislation. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and/or State laws, regulations, and corporate safety policies and standards.Knowledge Skills and Abilities: Microsoft Word, Excel,PowerPoint, and Outlook Communicate information and ideas clearly and concisely both written and verbally. Principles, theories and practices of industrial safety and corporate policy and practice Strong interpersonal skills Plan, organize and prioritize time and workload in order to accomplish tasks and meet deadlines. Understanding and ability to apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques Must be able to work under pressure
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements: Bachelor's Degree in related field Experience in related field may be substituted for education on a 2 to 1 year equivalent Preference may be given to applicants who hold professional certifications in one or more health and safety discipline (CIH, CET, CHMM, CSP,) is preferred. 5 Years previous experience Pre-employment and/or annual medical examinationPhysical Requirements: Risks which require the use of special safety precautions and/or equipment, e.g., working around operating machines, working with heavy machinery or hazardous chemicals, etc. Work requires physical exertion. May require the ability to stand; walk over rough surfaces; bend, crouch, stoop, stretch, reach, lift moderately heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) in a recurring manner and/or for long periods of time.
