1) OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Safety Supervisor is responsible for monitoring safety compliance with OSHA and other federal and state regulations to ensure the physical safety of our employees and our clients. Responsible for the organization and direction of plant safety functions to include: the development and implementation of policies and procedures, safety orientation, plant inspections and tours, safety committee meetings, and safety training. Manages our safety/environmental partnership with our Insurance Company and other safety related vendors. Oversees the relationship and requirements of the Corporate Zodiac Safety/Risk Group. Also responsible for the direct supervision and development of the Safety Coordinator.

2) DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
A) Develop and maintain proactive safety programs to ensure a safe and injury free work environment for employees, including policies, OSHA Regulations and required training compliance, and ergonomics.
B) Conducts accident and near miss investigations and safety job audits for prevention of work-related injuries with department supervisors, managers, and directors.
C) Partners and coordinates with the Training Manager, regarding new hire safety and health orientation, as well as other specified training programs.
D) Acts as resource information person for the Maintenance department concerning health and safety issues.
E) Works in conjunction with the plant Environmentalist, to assure that all Material Safety Data Sheets are filed and maintained in First Aid Office.
F) Works in conjunction with the Plant Environmentalist to make decisions and provide communication and training regarding environmental safety, health, and welfare and compliance with all state and federal agencies.
G) Leader of efforts that ensure our Management and Supervision implement and maintain compliance with PPE programs.
H) Works in conjunction with the Plant Environmentalist to assure the completion of weekly, monthly and annual Safety and Environmental audits to the facility to include notification of department Supervisors and Managers of recommended corrective action.
I) Develop, generate and disburse monthly Safety reports and Safety hazard reports, including safety trend analysis, hours worked and accident tracking.
J) Chair for the Facility Safety Committee.
K) Update safety handbook as necessary.
L) Works in conjunction with the Occupational Nursing staff to ensure the safety, health and welfare of the Company employees, also to include management of Workers' Compensation.
M) Communicates as necessary with Production Supervisors and Managers to employee work schedules/assignments to ensure safety and reduce operational liability
N) Keeps apprised of developments in federal and state safety laws
O) Drives a strong safety culture with a focus on internal and external operations
P) Performs other related duties as required.

3) QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:A) Knowledge and skills:
Must have knowledge of federal and state safety regulations (OSHA, EPA and TCEQ), as well as ergonomics, machine safety and environmental safety. Must have a thorough understanding of state Workers' Compensation laws. Requires internet and intranet usage and e-mail / fax correspondence. Work independently with high level of confidentiality, professional standards and ethics. Direct supervisory experience in maintaining, monitoring and documenting safety protocol and/or risk experience required. Effective communication and presentation skills. Ability to work a flexible schedule and occasional travel as required. Demonstrate strong organizational and leadership skills in an office environment with in depth familiarity to company rules and office procedures. Possess good grammar and communication skills with the ability to work under pressure, set priorities and handle confidential and sensitive company matters. Preferred knowledge and experience with HIPPA compliance.

B) Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in safety and health or related field or equivalent experience required. Five to eight years experience in safety and health administration in an industrial setting. Minimum 5 years direct supervisory experience in maintaining, monitoring and documenting safety protocol and/or risk experience required. Must be computer literate with PC training in Windows 2000 / Microsoft / Office Programs. Strong knowledge of OSHA and other federal regulations.

C) Communication Skills:
Must have the ability to generate written communication and to operate required office equipment. Strong customer service orientation and employee relations skills. Ability to work in a high pressure environment with frequent interruptions resulting in the need to reprioritize tasks. Must be able to properly handle sensitive and confidential information, and work well in a team-oriented environment. Ability to read and review written communication. Speech and hearing abilities that allow individual to communicate clearly and distinctly in English.

D) Reasoning Ability:
Ability to think strategically and solve problems.

4) PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ABILITIES:
This position requires extended periods of sitting while working with computers, viewing computer monitors and other office equipment. Finger dexterity needed in using misc. office equipment such as telephone, typing, ten key, fax, copy machine etc. Bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to approximately twenty pounds are required during tasks related to the job. In addition, this position, at times will require prolonged standing and distance walking throughout the facility. Position may require occasional travel for training purposes.
