Sabre Industries, a world leader in the design and fabrication of communications towers is expanding their Sioux City, Iowa facilities, and has an immediate opening for a Safety Technician.Responsibilities: Qualified individual will be responsible to perform the following duties. Other duties may be assigned. Reviews safety issues, accidents and near misses and works with the production leadership team and employees to develop plans for resolution. Conducts and schedules site and safety compliance inspections, including accident and incident investigations. Conducts investigations of serious accidents under supervision. Uses a working knowledge of personal, industrial & occupational safety to manage safety programs such as Life Safety Code, Forklift Operations, Hoist & Crane Operations, Lifting Equipment programs, Blood borne Pathogen Exposure Control, Respiratory Protection. PPE Program, Hazard Communication and other OSHA required programs. Collects site storm water samples. Promotes safety awareness; schedules & performs hazard awareness training. Prepares reports and required inspection records. Gathers pertinent information, statistics and figures to be presented in regular safety reporting. Maintains safety files and keeps the MSDS library up-to-date; keeps inventory of safety forms, supplies, materials and equipment for program use. Conducts production, shop and maintenance floor audits, submitting maintenance requests as required ensuring corrective actions. Complies with all environmental, health and safety federal, state, local regulations and company policies. Employee may have responsibilities of handling, storing and/or shipping hazardous waste. Performs Risk Assessments with all departments to determine the potential hazards of new processes and projects (capital projects and others) and ensures that all applicable Federal, State, and Local regulations, along with industry standards, (ANSI, NFPA, ACGIH) are followed. Determines the potential health effects of any new chemical under consideration for use. Ensures compliance with chemical, noise and monitoring programs. Develops and implements JSAs and training programs in the use of safety equipment including PPE, chemical hazards, noise hazards, physical hazards and safe operating practices and help management implement such programs. Maintains recordkeeping as directed. Develops and implements emergency evacuation plans and procedures. Participates in management health, safety and environmental audits.
Successful candidate will have an Associates degree in Occupational Safety or Environmental Health and Safety or related field, along with 3-5 years recent experience in Environmental, Health and Safety. Knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations related to safety is required. Must possess the ability to plan and coordinate multiple tasks while paying close attention to detail in fast paced environment. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate with personnel within all levels of the organization. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required.
