The sales consultant shall be responsible for continuously identifying, contacting and following up with prospects in the small group market. He/she must demonstrate consultative sales techniques to uncover the prospects’ issues and needs and apply comprehensive knowledge of complete line of products and services and underwriting guidelines to provide a solution to meet those needs. He/she develops strategies to build positive relationships with employers, brokers, and organizations to grow profitable membership. He/she is accountable for meeting monthly sales activity and productivity goals aligned with corporate scorecard and fully utilizing systems to maintain extensive records of prospects and activities.
Associates degree required. Bachelors degree business preferred or relevant business experience in lieu of education required.
Minimum one (1) year documented successful corporate sales experience, preferably in a service industry and/or selling intangibles. Ability to gather information, determine needs and provide solutions.
Demonstrated strong lead generation, networking and closing skills. Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities and manage time effectively.
Working knowledge of the health insurance industry or related industry.
Proven verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally via the telephone and email as well as in person.
Ability to develop collaborative working relationships with brokers and employers and internal customers in actuarial services, medical management and account servicing.
Strong public speaking/group presentation skills.
Strong pc skills required including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and the ability to learn and utilize contact management systems such as Salesforce.com in an effective and efficient manner to document all activity and proposal generation systems such as Firepond.
Ability to work beyond traditional business hours and weekends as needed.

It is a condition of employment that the applicant shall have the license required to sell health insurance in the State of New York at all times of employment or obtain that license within 6 months of commencing employment.
Local travel required. Any Independent Health employee who uses a motor vehicle in the course of their duties representing Independent Health must be compliant with New York State Motor Vehicle laws and must follow the Policy that pertains to Driver’s License Requirements as a condition of employment (See policy provided). This does not apply to any employee whose job description requires them to travel who has access to and intends to use public transportation to accommodate this requirement.
