Position Summary

A key member of the of the Product Management Group (located in First Command’s Home Office in Fort Worth, Texas, this position provides investment and insurance (life, LTC, DI) product support to First Command Advisors and includes investment portfolio analysis and proposals, across retail investments, fixed income solutions, AMS portfolios (First Command’s Managed Accounts), college savings planning (529 plans), retirement plans, retirement income planning and basic annuity solutions. As a Home Office driven organization, our advisors across the world will personally look to you for advice on how to allocate their clients’ portfolios using the three pillars – investment, savings and insurance.

Responsibilities

Supports all First Command advisors in the areas of portfolio analysis and investment recommendations as well as risk management (insurance) solutions.

Builds investment recommendations for advisors, performs analysis on portfolios and makes recommendations that are designed to satisfy their risk/return requirements based upon their individual risk tolerance score and appropriate time horizons for their goals, using Morningstar Advisor Workstation, SunGard PlanningStation Allocation Master, or other tools as appropriate .

Provides subject matter expertise on company retirement product line of tax qualified and non-tax qualified plans to include Roth and Traditional IRAs, SEP-IRAs, 401(k)s, 403(b)s, 457 plans, etc.

Provides general retirement income planning expertise and analysis and assists advisors in building specific recommendations for retirement funding strategies for clients leaving the workplace.

Assists advisors on selecting appropriate college savings plans from those available based upon the client situation. Stays abreast of changes in offerings of the various states' plans.

Assist Advisors with life, LTC and Disability product support and illustrations.

Works with Advisor Operations, Marketing, Legal and Compliance and Financial Planning departments to coordinate investment and insurance product support with other products and planning services of First Command.

Works with Product Management, Field Recruiting and Training, and Advisor Operations to identify training opportunities within First Command for investment and insurance products and services, and participates in developing training materials.

Conducts training for advisors on investment and insurance product strategies and solutions as well as NetX 360.

Helps advisors comply with all regulatory, legal and supervisory requirements with which First Command must comply to offer investment products and services. Implements, evolves and maintains procedures to best comply with these requirements.

Performs research on a wide variety of investment-related products while staying abreast of product changes, sales campaigns and new product introductions. Publish this information for the First Command Advisor force.

Understand employer qualified plans to include plan establishment, installation, operation, administration and servicing requirements for employers and employees. Provide guidance to advisor on best approach for a given client scenario and clearly outline fiduciary responsibilities associated with the development and recommendation of an employer plan.

Qualifications

Education – varies based on Level 1, 2 or 3 (see progression plan)

Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degrees include business, accounting or finance, or one with a strong mathematical component

Work Experience – varies based on Level 1, 2 or 3 (see progression plan)

At least 2 years’ experience in sales as an investment advisor representative or in an investment/insurance sales support role.

Certifications

FINRA registration Series 6/7, 63 and 65 or 66

Texas state insurance license

CFP, CIMA, CFA, ChFC or willing to begin the pursuit within 6 months of employment as determined by the needs of Product Management

Familiar with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

In depth knowledge of Morningstar Advisor Workstation or equivalent

Knowledge of the regulatory legal, supervisory, risk and liabilities associated with the investment, retirement planning, college savings and estate planning business and best methods to confront these issues.

Strong communications skills, both verbal and written

Strong administrative skills

A self-starter, works with a sense of urgency

Organized, ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, high volume environment and handle frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and meeting delivery times for assigned tasks.

A sense of service to advisors

Level 2

Familiar with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)

In depth knowledge of Morningstar Advisor Workstation or equivalent

In depth knowledge of mutual funds, annuities, retirement products, college savings plans and basic estate planning as well as basic knowledge (or willing to obtain) on life, LTC and Disability Insurance solutions.

Strong knowledge of employer qualified plans to include plan establishment, installation, operation, administration and servicing requirements

Knowledge of the regulatory legal, supervisory, risk and liabilities associated with the investment, retirement planning, college savings and estate planning business and best methods to confront these issues.

Strong communications skills, both verbal and written

Strong administrative skills

A self-starter, works with a sense of urgency

Organized, ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, high volume environment and handle frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and meeting delivery times for assigned tasks.

Preferred knowledge of REIT’s, Fixed Income solutions, Separately Managed Accounts and Unified Managed Accounts

In depth knowledge of mutual funds, annuities, retirement products, college savings plans and basic estate planning as well as basic knowledge (or willing to obtain) on life, LTC and Disability Insurance solutions.

Knowledge of the regulatory legal, supervisory, risk and liabilities associated with the investment, retirement planning, college savings and estate planning business and best methods to confront these issues.

Knowledge of the best practices in the investment retirement and estate planning industry

Strong communications skills, both verbal and written

Strong administrative skills

A self-starter, works with a sense of urgency

Organized, ability to prioritize work in a fast paced, high volume environment and handle frequent interruptions while maintaining accuracy and meeting delivery times for assigned tasks.

Must have high problem solving mathematical, statistical and analytical skills

Progression Plan

Level 1: 5 years relevant work experience

Level 2: 4 year college degree in Business, Marketing, Finance (preferred) or 5 years of relevant work experience with a ChFC or CFP designation.

Level 3: Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred degrees include business, accounting or finance, or one with a strong mathematical component + certifications.
