The Scalability Testing role provides a great deal of responsibility and reward with regard to technical development and knowledge. Each team member has ownership of large scale projects. Scalability Engineers are extremely important as they function as the customer advocate and their work directly impacts the company’s largest customers.
The Scalability Engineer looks for issues on a large scale. They use simulation test tools to test numerous scenarios in large volumes. The product is network intensive so team members need an understanding of the network and how data flows. Strong documentation and communication skills are required as a test successfully completed today may run into a new issue a year later, and may require going back into the original data and documentation.
This role requires creativity and problem solving on a daily basis. A Scalability Engineer must anticipate important data points for practical analysis. A Scalability Engineer must demonstrate the willingness to take chances, continue to develop new tools, learn new technologies, and be confident in their work. This is not a traditional test environment and team members have the unique opportunity to grow their technical skill set exponentially.
This is a high energy team environment with an equally high job satisfaction rating. Team members have a strong respect for each other and work well together. The actual work environment is outstanding and offers an excellent work life to home life balance: a flex-time 8 hour schedule, no beepers, no weekends and no emergency calls with the exception of a very rare occasion.

Set up and maintain high-scale testing environments of moderate to high complexity, including hardware and all software required for simulations and tests. This includes troubleshooting hardware, network, and software issues.
Make use of various tools including interaction generators, handlers, and scripting tools to create as close to a real customer environment as possible.

Work with all levels of Development to diagnose problems identified by test runs.
Collect and interpret product and network logs, and perform data analysis to confirm results.
Track and effectively communicate detailed results of test runs.
Be a strong customer advocate for product optimizations to relieve performance and scalability bottlenecks.
Should strive to evolve into a mentor for new or Associate Level Scalability Engineers.
