Responsible for directing the Scholarship Program of the Harper College Educational Foundation. Primary duties include building the scholarship program by soliciting donations for endowed and current use scholarships from individuals and businesses, reviewing criteria for scholarship awards with donors, working with software that matches applicants to criteria, collaborating with the financial aid office in awarding scholarships, meeting with faculty to ensure candidates are determined for specific awards, and designing an annual event and other initiatives to bring donor and student scholarship recipients together.
Assists in a variety of special projects as determined by the Office of the President of Harper College.
Duties of Position
Solicits new endowed scholarships in the amount of $10,000 and above for various areas of the College. Also solicits current use scholarships of $3,000 and above.
Oversees all aspects of scholarship awards including student applications, reports to donors, event coordination, relationship building and a goal of awarding 100% of scholarships available for distribution.
Works with the financial aid office and faculty to make sure all scholarships are awarded.
Communicates with donors about their student recipients. Coordinates a major event annually to bring donors and their student recipients together.
Reviews and revises criteria with donors to standardize. Assures that recognition is in place for all donors. Reviews all acknowledgement letters for accuracy.
Records all information regarding donors in Raisers Edge database.
Supervises and manages the Academic Works Scholarship application software.
Obtains donor information for entry on the software donor profiles.
Engages students in various types of communication with their scholarship donor.
Generates reports on dollars raised and activity regarding scholarship acquisition and management when requested by Foundation Committees.
Works independently and as part of the Foundation team. Assists team members in projects and programs of the Foundation.
Participates in projects and programs as needed. Plans and implements annual direct appeals to generate funds for student scholarships and gifts to Foundation programs. Performs related duties as assigned.
Works on assigned projects from the Office of the President of Harper College.
Bachelor's degree required. English, marketing, business, communications or related area preferred. Master's degree in related area preferred.
Three years experience working with scholarship programs in higher education.
Three years experience working in annual or major gift fundraising with direct solicitation experience preferred.
